The role of the youth pastor is to be the primary spiritual guide for students from 6th grade to 12th grade at Grace Chapel.
We desire to see the youth ministries at Grace Chapel buzzing with junior high and high school students who are growing in their love for Christ and are excited about sharing their faith.
We desire our youth pastor to relate effectively with our students and support them through biblical teaching, prayer, advice and being a godly example. We desire our youth pastor to model passion for the lost and an eagerness to evangelize. We also desire our youth pastor to model a love for Jesus and the Bible.
We want our youth ministry to have a reputation for being fun and inviting. We want our junior and senior high ministry to be designed around two competing ideas. 1. We want a strategy that demonstrates that our youth pastor is a missionary to the students in our community. This will require our youth pastor to find ways to bring new students into our ministries and to get involved in student’s lives who are not part of our church. 2. We want our youth pastor to help our Christian kids mature in their faith. We want him/her to be a Bible teacher who inspires our kids to desire to know and love Jesus. This will require our youth pastor to have Bible studies and to spend time with the students looking for opportunities to speak the word of God into their lives. This will also require our youth pastor to teach the students how to serve and do ministry themselves.
Specific duties:
1. Design and implement ministries which will effectively accomplish the above goals.
2. To be the primary Bible teacher for our junior and senior high students.
3. Recruit and train a team of volunteers to help in these ministries.
4. Develop a yearly plan for each age group that demonstrates the goals of teaching, mentoring and evangelism. Always having the next six months detailed out including teaching topics.
5. Spend time in prayer with and for the students.
6. Develop a yearly budget.
7. Have a minimum of two trips or retreats for senior high and one for the junior high group annually. Concentrated time with leaders and God is a very powerful thing in student’s lives. Promoting and attending camp with the students counts towards this goal.
8. General oversight of Sunday school.
9. Be a key player in VBS.
10. Participate in the NOW program so the kids are comfortable with him/her.
11. Attend staff meetings and work as a helpful team member with other staff.
12. Be willing to step in and help in other areas if a need arises – short-term.
