Basic Requirements
- In gifting and ability able to serve in the capacity of an Associate Pastor in ministering in all facets of the local church, yet willing to function in a supporting role, fulfilling similar and complementary duties to the Senior Pastor
- Personally agree with the theological positions represented in the Doctrinal Statement of Mt. Olivet Church and the practical ministry positions taken in various Position Statements (see website)
- Minister in full submission to the church Constitution and the decisions of the Elder Board
Position Description
- Accurately dividing and boldly expositing the Scriptures (2 Tim 2:14-15; 4:2)
- Equipping the Body through both teaching and training in areas of biblical knowledge and practical skills necessary for living the Christian life (Eph 4:11-16)
- Personally proclaiming the gospel publicly and privately (Acts 20:20-21; 2 Tim 4:5)
- Being an example to the Flock in all things (1 Peter 5:3; 1 Cor 11:1, Phil 3:17, 1 Tim 4:12)
- Patiently and carefully disciple, correct, admonish, encourage, and help fellow leaders and members
(Acts 20:31; 1 Thess 5:14; 2 Tim 2:24-26) - Personally / proactively guard the church from the error of unprincipled men (Acts 20:28; 2 Peter 3:17)
- Being devoted to prayer (Acts 6:4, Col 4:2)
Specifically, this would include, but not be limited to, the following duties…
- Small group ministries: Recruiting, training, and mentoring group leaders, assisting group leaders as necessary on areas of study, and encouraging and facilitating the placement of small group attendees
- Regularly teach adult Sunday School
- Preach / Lead publicly when Sr. Pastor is out (whether periodically or extended period)
- Leadership Oversight of a segment of the lay-led ministries of the Church, including helping lay leaders form goals and implementation plans and providing resources & accountability
- Pastoral Counseling – from recognition, assessment, formulating a plan, purposeful meetings, and follow-up
- Pastoral Visitation – purposefully and systematically (men, widows, elderly, hospital, newcomers)
- Personal Discipleship / Shepherding of individuals / small groups, formally and informally
- Train (formally & informally) fellow leaders in biblical knowledge and practical ministry skill
