Part- Time Minister of Worship

Job Description

 Primary Function: The Minister of Worship is responsible for providing spiritual leadership for the congregation and the planning and development of people and ministries for Christ-centered worship in the church.

Qualifications and characteristics we desire:

1. Exhibits a deep and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
2. Is in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000
3. Professional or church staff experience preferred
4. Embraces a role in ministry beyond specific areas and is eager to be a disciple-maker to accomplish the mission of the church
5. Skilled at leading with a worship band, vocalists, and instrumentalists while having an appreciation for variety in music
6. Desires to fully participate in church life and develop a growing love in Christ for all the people while providing effective ministry care
7. Cultivates a prayer-filled life and extends that to the platform in leading people in worship
8. Excels and enjoys recruiting and training volunteers for public worship
9. Demonstrates clear leadership and communication skills from the platform by direction the players and vocalists but also by encouraging the congregation’s participation
10. Able to take constructive criticism and seek out input from those with different ideas
11. Possesses administrative skills and will be able to lead by example and delegate when necessary

General Responsibilities:

1. Work under the general supervision of the Pastor
2. Join with the ministry staff in weekly staff meetings, church business meetings, and other leadership planning/development
3. Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor

Music & Worship:

1. Recruit and lead paid and volunteer worship team to develop, communicate, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive vision for worship in accordance with the church’s vision and initiatives
2. Plan weekly order of worship and lead a weekly practice for band and vocalists
3. Offer ongoing training opportunities for volunteers to develop their music and ministry skills
4. Prepare budget requests to provide for worship ministry needs and coordinate purchasing of equipment
5. Develop a creative planning team to encourage effective and creative worship
6. Organize volunteers and equipment for AV/media ministry
7. Maintain instruments to keep them in shape for professional use
8. Ability to lead vocally while playing guitar or keyboard strongly preferred
9. Willingness to learn and master technology for online live stream worship

Administration Responsibilities

1. Current working knowledge of streaming technology and other online tools
2. Lead an effort to upgrade church wide technology and be alert to continual upgrading opportunities
3. Maintain all necessary licenses and keep required records
4. Purchase music ministry resources as needed
5. Maintain church owned equipment including instruments, sound equipment, and media equipment
6. Steward the annual music budget in a responsible manner
7. Take a “minister first” approach to the artists and volunteers under your care

Additional Responsibilities

1. An understanding of technology including audio, video, lighting, on-screen media, and live streaming.
2. A self-starter. Able to cast a vision and motivate people to work toward that goal.
3. A team player. Able to work in a collaborative way with staff and volunteers.
4. Be seen as a welcoming ambassador for our church.
