The Associate Pastor’s primary responsibility is to use their giftings, time, and efforts to advance the ministries towards the people of Pathway Church to the ultimate goal of going after lost people, growing people as followers of Jesus, and guiding people
into God’s purpose for them under the leadership and direction of the lead pastor and elder team.
Requirements
- Meets the qualifications of an elder/shepherd outlined in Titus 1:6-9 and 1 Tim. 3:1-16.
- Minimum 3+ years experience in a pastoral role
- Theologically aligned with Pathway’s Statement of Faith, doctrinal positions, mission, and core values
- Give evidence of a spiritually balanced life (prayer, Bible study, rest, worship, financial stewardship)
- Possesses personality, temperament and interpersonal skills to relate and serve effectively within a multi-generational congregation setting
- Exhibit evidence of Christian character and servant leadership as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4 in work environment as well as in home/family setting
- Technologically literate
- Time-efficient
- Able to work within team systems
- Able to objectively receive criticism and feedback
Preferred
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a ministry related field
- Experience overseeing weekly worship services
- Musical ability

Responsibilities
Pastoral
- Support the Senior Pastor in the overall vision casting and leadership of the church’s teaching
- Work with the Senior Pastor to ensure weekend services are planned and executed
- Preach 5-10 times per year depending upon need and gifting. Always be prepared with a “back pocket message” in the event of emergency to fill in for lead pastor/other teacher.
- Know the congregation by showing intense interest in them and love for them. This is evidenced by pursuing intentional relationship with church members.
- Serves as one of the primary shepherds of spiritual life at Pathway. Responsible for helping track the spiritual growth and progress of all partners.
- Share the visitation responsibility of visiting those who are sick or in the hospital as requested by the Lead Pastor.
- Share the responsibility of officiating funerals and weddings as requested by Lead Pastor.
- Provide pastoral care to children, youth, and families; provide confidential pastoral counseling in emergencies and short-term basis.
Staff/Admin
- Serve as a “face” of the staff on Sundays by being available in the lobby and entry areas to greet attendees and be available for questions or prayer
- Serve as a primary contact for visitors. Works with administrative associate to coordinate follow up with new guest, and members who have not attended church for a couple of weeks.
- Responsible for helping oversee church finances including budgeting, expense accounts, reporting, and accounting.
- Lead and participate in a regular community group.
- Work as a team player with the rest of Pathway church staff and leadership. This includes being a part of staff functions (meetings, phone calls, retreats, planning sessions, etc.)
- Oversee one of the following areas of ministry: Corporate Worship, Outreach Ministries, Youth ministry depending upon gifting/skill set
Other Expectations
Pathway Staff Members are expected to be in community with other believers who are following Jesus. At Pathway, our means of accomplishing this are called community groups. Pathway Staff members are expected to be dedicated partners in alignment with the
values and beliefs of Pathway Church. Staff members are expected to be financial supporters of the church. Staff members are expected to be participant in church life and regular church attenders (not in a legalistic sense). Staff members are expected to practice
regular sabbath. Staff members are expected to be at services regularly and to be part of church life.
