If today's teenagers and all that that entails (FOMO, iPhone-laden-anxiety, digital natives, gender confusion, deconstruction, and rizzed up culture... whatever that means)... if that doesn't scare you away, then this might be the role for you.

If you still believe - even in 2023 - that God is still up to something great in the next generation and you want to be a part of that, then keep reading...

WHAT YOU’D DO ON OUR TEAM

Here are the major areas you’d be contributing to:

  • Champion of Discipleship. Recruit and equip disciplers for our youth and model it through direct discipling of youth and youth leaders.
  • Builder of Community. Nurture youth small groups and large group gatherings using curriculum that is both relevant and Biblical.
  • Scripture Habit Advocate. Create and inculcate a rhythm of youth engagement with the Scriptures.
  • Experience Maker. Create events or partner with existing organizations that help our teens experience God and grow in their heart and ability to share Christ with their peers.
  • Recruit, equip, and develop excellent group leaders, mentors, and volunteers for the youth ministry.

Qualifications

The type of person we are looking for is:

  • Welcoming to skeptics and those who don’t fit the church stereotype
  • Comfortable enough in their identity and walk with God to not be freaked out by teens who ask really tough questions about who they are, who God is, and what they really believe
  • Good at connecting with teens at church, a school play, or a soccer game
  • A strong student and teacher of the Scriptures
  • A natural at galvanizing volunteer leaders
  • A student of youth & culture, without being consumed by either
  • Excited about working with a team

More specifically we are looking for the 3 C’s:

Competency. Liking middle schoolers is critical, but we’re hoping for more than that.

  • You need at least 2-3 years’ experience in youth ministry. We need evidence that you know how to relate to teens, develop leaders, and run a program.
  • You have to be Biblically educated. You don’t have to have a seminary degree, but this is greatly preferred.
  • Someone other than your mother needs to tell you that you are good at teaching. Teaching is not primary in this role, but if you can’t carry a group of teens for 20+ minutes, you will struggle in this role.
  • You need to have the interpersonal relational skills to get along well with both students and adults.

Character. Our church is for broken, hurting people. In order to lead people to a place of health & wholeness in Christ, you need to be fundamentally healthy & whole. You must be mature & maturing in your faith, committed to the mission of God, an example in sharing your life with others (fellowship), and discerning in matters of faith & life.

Culture. You have to “fit” with our team & show an appreciation for the culture of New Story. When you hear our values, something in you should say: “Yes!” Please check out our website and this Vision Sermon & ask yourself: Do I believe in what New Story is doing? Could I give my time & energy & creativity to what they are doing? Do I want to go where they are going?  If the answer to any of these is “No,” then it’s not a fit.

If you still want to apply, then we really want you to apply!

PAY & BENEFITS

This is a full-time position. Your pay will be commensurate with your education and experience. (You won’t get rich, but we take care of our staff.)

Benefits include paid time off, a 403(b) retirement plan and your very own New Story T-shirt.

A Bit About Our “New” Church

Well, hello there!  We’re New Story Church. We long to become a church where life transformation is normal. By “life transformation” we mean a Romans-12-radical-inside-out kind of transformation. Here’s a message that unpacks it a bit more. While our church has some history, it is really a new thing. 18 months ago, two churches merged, but it wasn’t as simple as 1+1=2. Since the merger, attendance has nearly doubled. Somehow it was more like 1+1=4. We’ve spent the past year and a half trying to catch up with what God is doing: expanding the sanctuary, launching a building project, adding staff, rebranding as New Story, and beginning to take our first steps towards becoming a church where life transformation is normal.

A Bit About Our Quirky Community

While more than ½ our people come from outside of the borough, Phoenixville is home. Phoenixville a young, growing, bustling, artsy, quirky borough on the outskirts of Philly, and we love it. It’s known for murals, tattoo parlors, live music, craft breweries – a few years ago we broke into the top 10 in the nation – & seriously crazy festivals. But, if you are looking for something else, we’re close to everything. We’re right next to Valley Forge and a number of major hiking trails, nature preserves, & places to kayak. In less than an hour, you can be running the Rocky steps at the Philly Art Museum, riding a buggy in Amish country, or singing “Fly Eagles Fly” with 100,000 screaming fans. Within 2 hours, you can be sunbathing on the Jersey shore, skiing in the Poconos, or watching a show on Broadway.
