Tech Director Job Description

Highland Park Community Church is a multi-site church looking to hire a full-time Tech Director whose primary concern is to oversee the A/V Tech Team and provide direction for all A/V-related areas on our main church campus in Casper, WY, as well as our satellite campus based in Cody, WY.  HPCC is a large, growing church in Casper with 2000+ average weekly attendance (pre-Covid) and 1600+ (post-Covid). We have a main worship center seating 1647, a youth worship center seating 450, a chapel seating 300, an atrium for large group meetings, and a kids ministry room which holds 200. We have a full building on Wednesday evenings with kids and youth activities, small group meetings, and worship team rehearsals. We also have a Celebrate Recovery service on Friday night in addition to our two regular services on Sunday mornings. (The candidate will be responsible for Friday nights but is not necessarily needed to be in attendance on those nights long term)

HPCC highly values worship arts and the A/V tech team.  In the last several years the church has invested more than $200K in new equipment including a new video system/cameras and a new audio console.  The church’s online and in-person presence has been steadily growing and needs clear oversight by a technical director who will help take us to the next level. We don’t expect this person to be a “master” at everything, but rather, someone who has enough knowledge to sufficiently lead the A/V team and a willingness to grow in their own skills and knowledge.

We offer strong benefits and compensation packages based on skills and experience. More details can be given during the interview process.

Qualifications:

  • We are looking for a person who has experience in live and online A/V production along with someone who is a strong audio engineer.
  • You will oversee other areas such as RF management, stage lighting, presentation software, and live video production.
  • This person needs to be able to work well with a wide range of personality types.
  • Preferably some knowledge of video switching, stage design, ProPresenter, and lighting. We can help train in areas the candidate may be weaker.
  • They should have experience recruiting and leading a team of volunteers, paid staff, and contractual employees to create distraction-free worship services.
  • Knowledge of color temperature concerning lighting/cameras, video frame rates, and SDI/HD routing is also preferred.
  • We use an SSL (L500 Plus) in the main auditorium and Yamaha digital audio consoles in other venues. Will provide training as needed.
  • Some knowledge of Dante, Ross video switchers, Blackmagic/Panasonic/Marshall cameras, and ETC lighting consoles is a plus.
  • This role requires someone who is a go-getter and tenaciously pursues excellence.
  • This person should know how to not only make a really strong “mix” in person but also in an online/broadcast stream as well.

This position reports directly to the Worship Arts Pastor and will oversee two part-time Technical Associates.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out the vision of leadership
  • Recruit, inspire, train, and lead paid/contract staff and volunteers while also growing and expanding the Tech Team
  • Producing worship services and leading pre-service and Thursday afternoon sermon run through
  • Providing oversight/maintenance/upgrades/repairs for A/V equipment on HPCC Casper Campus and Cody Campus as well as remote events
  • Researching, recommending, coordinating and/or installing A/V purchases
  • Participating in planning meetings and creative team meetings
  • Managing and upgrading the on-site recording studio
  • Fulfilling the role of a recording engineer, as needed
