Worship Arts Pastor

Washington Heights Baptist Church

Dayton, Ohio

Washington Heights Baptist Church is seeking a Worship Arts Pastor. WHBC is a multigenerational congregation that seeks to take the good news of the gospel to all those who need to hear it, across the street or around the world. The Worship Arts ministry at WHBC plays a central role in the weekly gathering of believers. The purpose of the Worship Arts Team is to nurture our people’s love for Christ. We are looking for a man of God who will shepherd our people in worship and lead our Worship Arts Team members in the development and expression of their gifts. The Worship Arts Pastor works closely with the Lead Pastor and key volunteers to draw our attenders into the worship experience and the teaching of God’s Word. As a church on the small to medium end of the spectrum, staff at WHBC is asked to assume additional duties simultaneously with their primary role. Other duties will be assigned by the Lead Pastor as needed.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • The Worship Arts Pastor has oversight of the worship team and programs.
  • Plan and lead engaging Sunday morning gatherings in conjunction with the Lead Pastor.
  • Possess or develop the ability to lead a multi-generational congregation through different styles and genres of worship. Help our church to embrace new worship music while continuing to incorporate well-loved styles.
  • Provide leadership in the worship ministry recruiting, training, rehearsing, and communicating with volunteer worship staff in areas such as tech, videography, lighting, and production.
  • Direct and train choir for weekly worship and special occasions as agreed upon with Lead Pastor.
  • Plan special worship services including but not limited to Good Friday, Easter, Christmas Eve, and Christmas.
  • Coordinate with the Student and Children’s ministries to help develop hearts and skills among the next generation.
  • Oversee the worship arts ministry budget.
  • Give pastoral care to the worship ministry and others in the church.
  • Oversee technical and media support for worship services (sound, lighting, video projection) and live streaming of Sunday morning services.
  • Assist in funerals, weddings, and other occasions, as needed.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Pastoral Staff, Support Staff, and other ministry leaders to accomplish the mission and vision of WHBC.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

Candidates for this position must possess:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in a ministry related field (post-graduate work is preferred).
  • 5-7 years of experience in leading worship or music related fields.
  • A servant’s attitude that recognizes ministry is about serving the people of Christ’s church, not punching a clock or doing a “job.”
  • An attitude of cooperation and a heart of submission toward other members of the leadership team, out of reverence for Christ (Eph 5:21).
  • The ability to manage many tasks and priorities simultaneously with a winsome attitude.
  • A desire to serve Christ by serving the people of Washington Heights.

Skills Required or willingness to learn:

  • ProPresenter
  • Planning Center
  • Familiarity with Musical Languages (chord charts, sheet music, scores, vocal arrangements, etc.)
  • Orchestra conducting
  • Choir directing
  • Transposing music
  • Berringer X32

Interested Candidates should:
