Associate Pastor

If helping to love and lead a church in a more rural setting is within your calling and passions, First Baptist Church of Lamar, Colorado is interested in hearing from you.  We are seeking a full time Associate Pastor to work along side our family and our team of pastors.  We are a well-established, growing, biblically-conservative family of faith aligned with the American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains and ABC-USA.  Our mission is to plant, grow and multiply.  We live in a community where, according to the last census, 80% of the population does not have a church home.  We have much work to do!  We consider ourselves a teaching church, much like a teaching hospital—teaching each to take the next right step in the call to serve Christ, wherever they are.  

Our two most essential qualities that we are looking for are the ability to develop and nurture relationships and not only be a team player but lead as a team player.  We are also looking for someone who has completed a seminary degree.  We are seeking someone who would be comfortable working within the parameters of the ABC-USA Code of Ethics and the church’s statement of faith and constitution. We are seeking someone who is willing and gifted to serve God in a variety of capacities such as preaching, mentoring/teaching, and counseling.  IT experience or at least a basic knowledge base is a plus.  This position is open to experienced ministers and new graduates.

Retirement benefits and housing allowances are included benefits.  Compensation package based upon experience and qualification and will be somewhere in the range of $50,000.  

General Duties Include:

• Assist the Lead Pastor in providing ministry in areas such as education, teaching, visitation, writing and counseling
• Assist the Lead Pastor in preaching, youth development, and community outreach

Personal Qualifications:

• A man who has experienced Christ’s forgiveness and transformation and approaches scriptures in a literal, grammatical, and historical manner
• A willingness and desire to uphold the ABC Ethics Agreement and Constitution of FBC
• Demonstrated experience as a team player, specifically an ability to exercise creativity that complements leadership, and an ability to coordinate on a day to day basis with the Senior Pastor
• Digital/IT capable, with media production (video/audio development) experience, and a willingness train others and lead a media team a plus
• Administrative abilities a plus

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited Seminary or similar University preferred

About Lamar, Colorado:

Community College System Lamar is a rural town with a population of 7,000 located on the southeastern plains of Colorado. The City offers many recreational amenities including parks, swimming pool, golf course, finishing ponds, skate park, and walking and bicycle loop. Lamar has an active Chamber of Commerce, city wide events, and a number of organizations and clubs for adults, children, and families. Lamar was recently ranked among the safest and most affordable places to live in Colorado.

Compensation and Benefits:

The compensation package for this position is approximately $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience and education.  The package includes medical and retirement benefits as well as continuing education and professional development stipends. The position is structured as an initial 2 to 3 year contract with the opportunity for renewal.
