DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

The primary duty and responsibility of the Senior Pastor is to be the spiritual leader of the Congregation.  The Senior Pastor is expected to preach the word of God and extend the Christian ministry of Grace Community Church to the communities of Boulder City and Henderson.

More specifically this includes, but is not limited to, planning and conducting weekly biblically-based inspirational church services (including special Christmas and Easter services); conducting baptisms, performing weddings, and conducting funerals under terms and conditions consistent with church policies; overseeing church staff (subject to the directives of the Staff-Parish Commission); overseeing and assisting with community outreach and service, Christian youth development and fellowship and Christian education programs; ministering to the infirmed members of the congregation and the bereaved (visitations, counseling, prayer vigils, and funerals) and growing families (counseling, fellowship, confirmation classes, and weddings); and monitoring and assisting fellowship programs and Grace Christian Academy.  The Senior Pastor is expected to consult with and attend the meetings of the Church’s Board of Directors, Commissions and Committees, and follow and implement their directives and policies.

MEET GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH:

Grace Community Church is a nearly century old independent multi-denominational Protestant church.  The Congregation provides organizational, operational, budgetary, and broad-based direction to the Board of Directors, which manages the Church’s ongoing operations, with the assistance of its Commissions and Committees.  The Church, which supports numerous local, national and international missions including Grace Christian Academy, is entirely self-supporting.

MISSION:

The Mission of Grace Community Church is to provide Christian worship, Christian fellowship, Christian education, and to support Christian missions locally, nationally, and internationally in the spirit of the two great Commandments – You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.

VISION:

Grace Community Church is inspired by the worship of God to reach out to all people in the community, while recognizing our sacred obligation to the growth and fellowship of believers at Grace Community Church.

CORE VALUES:

At Grace Community Church, these are the things we value and seek to embody as a community of faith. With God’s help and guidance, we humbly acknowledge that our life together is a work in progress. In essentials - unity; In non-essentials - diversity; In all things – charity.

  • The Bible: We believe the Bible, as contained in both the Old and New testaments is the divinely inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16). We strive to live Jesus’ two great commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
  • Christ Likeness: We are on a journey of faith together. Through God’s transforming power we will manifest the character of Christ – the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). We seek to develop a servant heart and a giving spirit. (Ephesians 4:13)
  • Relationships: We strive to love each other as God loves us. We welcome, accept, and forgive all of God’s children. While strongly adhering to Biblical dictates, we respect that others may have differing understandings of biblical texts and differing social and political views. We seek humility and a listening spirit when in dialogue with others.
  • Teamwork: We rally together for common goals and endeavor to support each other. We value others as we value ourselves and welcome their ideas and opinions. We support and help each other in any way we can.
  • Discipleship: We understand that the primary work of the Church is to make disciples. This requires evangelism (the winning of personal commitment to Christ); and teaching (the impartation of truth and practice). (Matthew 28:18-20)
  • Prayer: We believe prayer is an essential way to communicate with God. We speak to God and God speaks to us. Prayer is both private and public and important for all.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO LIVE IN BOULDER CITY:

Boulder City was built in 1931 by the Bureau of Reclamation to house workers for the construction of Boulder Dam. The only incorporated city in Nevada, it is a community without gaming and home of the State's number one tourist attraction, Hoover Dam. It is a wholesome, family-oriented community, with a significant retirement sector, that takes pride in its low crime rate and high-quality police and fire protection. It is situated between the entertainment and excitement of Las Vegas and Henderson and the recreation paradise of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, North America's largest man-made lake and home to the First Designated National Water Trail in the desert and Southwest.

FINANCES:

Grace Community Church is financially strong.  It has no long-term debt and is sustained by tithes, gifts, contributions and revenues generated by The Country Store and other fundraising efforts, and its Foundation.  These resources fund operations of Grace Community Church and its local, national and international missions.

A more detailed explanation of its finances will be provided later in the search process.

STRENGTHS:

  • Tradition: Grace Community Church was the first church established in Boulder City and has been a religious pillar of the community for nearly a century.
  • Leadership: Grace Community Church’s Senior Pastor has long been a leader in the community, involved in and providing leadership to numerous community projects.  Its Director of Music Ministries annually coordinates and directs a variety of musical events in Boulder City. The Church has an active Women’s Association.
  • Community: Grace Community Church supports Lend-a-Hand, Boulder City Emergency Aid, Family Promise, Salvation Army and numerous other programs and projects in Boulder City and throughout the greater Las Vegas valley.
  • Community Service: Grace Community Church’s Country Store events annually involve hundreds of volunteers and provide community support for Boulder City.
  • Grace Christian Academy: Grace Christian Academy is the preeminent Kindergarten through Sixth Grade Christian school in Boulder City, providing affordable high-quality academic, spiritual, emotional and physical education in a small class setting.

CHALLENGES:

  • Senior Congregation: Many of the Congregation are seniors and there is presently low youth membership.  It is expected that the new Senior Pastor will focus on bringing in new, younger members and support the development of new programs to attract and retain younger members.
  • Snowbird Congregation: A number of the Congregation’s members are seasonal, residing in the area during the warmer fall, winter and spring that attracts people to Boulder City.  It is expected that the Senior Pastor and other staff members will continue to record weekly services for online viewing by absent members.
  • Staffing Changes: The Office Manager will also be retiring this year.

About Grace Community Church

Grace Community Church and Boulder City have intertwined histories. Boulder City began as a construction town for the workers and families of the workers who built Hoover Dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. Grace Community Church began as an inter-denominational Protestant religious work and was supported in April 1932 by members of the National Home Missions Council. American Baptist Church, Congregational Church, United Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Church (USA), Methodist Episcopal Church, Disciples -United Christian Missionaries, and the United Brethren Church all supported the new Grace Community Church. The theme of the original organizing group was “Let there be one Protestant church cooperating, not a dozen competing.”
