Function

The Children’s Pastor will serve as an advocate for the families of East Lake Community Church.  Our children’s pastor will equip and empower a diverse team of servant leaders who partner with parents to provide discipleship for the children of our church family and in our community partnerships.  The children’s pastor will partner with the broader Family Ministry team to ensure we are loving and serving the spiritual, emotional, and relational needs of the entire family. Responsible for providing support to the family pastor and other pastoral acts (weddings, baptisms, funerals).

Qualifications

Education Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree or actively enrolled and pursuing a degree from a university. A degree in theology, ministry, or a related field is preferred, as well as experience working in a children’s ministry or related field.

 

Experience

This position requires at least 3 years of experience in pastoral ministry and demonstrated giftedness in the areas of responsibility.

Ministry Duties and Responsibilities

Children’s Ministry

  • Developing and implementing a vision and strategy for the children's ministry that aligns with the overall mission and values of the church.
  • Recruiting, training, and equipping servant leaders to serve in various roles within the children's ministry, such as teachers, small group leaders, greeters, and administrators.
  • Creating and managing a budget for the children's ministry, including expenses related to supplies, curriculum, and events.
  • Selecting and/or developing curriculum that is age-appropriate, relevant, and biblically sound.
  • Planning and executing a variety of events and activities, such as Vacation Bible School, Christmas programs, and summer camps, that engage children and families and help them grow in their faith.
  • Communicating regularly with parents and guardians, providing updates on their children's progress and opportunities for involvement.
  • Ensuring that all servant leaders and staff members working with children have completed appropriate background checks and adhere to the church's child protection policies and procedures.
  • Collaborating with other church leaders and staff members to ensure that the children's ministry is integrated into the larger church community and supports the overall mission and vision of the church.
  • Providing pastoral care and support to children and families in times of need, such as illness, bereavement, or family crises.
  • Continuously evaluating and improving the effectiveness of the children's ministry, seeking feedback from parents, servant leaders, and church leaders, and implementing changes as necessary.
  • Other pastoral acts as needed. Includes planning and participating in weddings, spiritual coaching, baptisms, and funerals as required. Duties and responsibilities may change and be adjusted due to ministry needs.
