Job Description:

The Well exists to impact Ionia with the gospel by people learning The Bible and living out biblical truths.  As a part of that vision, we believe our mission is connecting people to Christ in everyday moments of life.  We accomplish this mission by GATHERING, GIVING, GROWING, and GOING!  We GATHER together in weekly assembly to worship; we Give like Jesus gave through our time, talents, and treasures; we GROW in Christ through knowledge and community, and we GO by serving the church and reaching out to our community and beyond.

The Associate Pastor is a spiritual and organizational leader who oversees the Worship/Creative Arts Ministry and Youth Ministry of The Well Church. This individual, as an active member of the church, will see Members and Regular Attenders as the measure of success and find joy in seeing the congregation respond to the Lord. Oversight includes, but is not limited to, leading all musical, creative, and AVL technical aspects of Sunday and midweek services; implementation of TWC's vision, mission, and strategy in the worship and youth area; crafting the themes for each service/series/season in conjunction with the Lead Pastor; discipling team members and developing lay and PT paid worship leaders while working with various groups throughout the church to use music and the arts for worship; and ensuring each worship service is led in such a way that the congregation has an opportunity to celebrate and connect with God.

General Duties

  • Responsible and answerable to the Lead Pastor
  • Must maintain and submit reports as required.
  • See that their office is kept neat, clean, and well organized.
  • Attends all Leadership Meetings as required.
  • Faithfully attend worship services.

Attitude

  • Must exercise tact, courtesy, and diplomacy in dealing with guests and church members alike.
  • A spirit of faithfulness must be exhibited relative to the entire ministry of the church and must be willing to serve as an example in areas of conduct, service, and faithfulness.
  • Because this position is sometimes party to much information regarding many highly sensitive areas, it is imperative that confidentiality prevail at all times. It is also important to note that many times you will only be knowledgeable regarding but a portion of the information relative to any issue or subject; therefore, complete confidentiality is required so as to avoid confusion, offense, and/or misunderstanding.

Specific Duties Related to Worship Ministry

  • Must lead all aspects of planning, preparing, and executing of the worship service(s).
  • Must develop and schedule teams of instrumentalists and vocalists.
  • Must Organize and lead practices.
  • Will assume pastoral and discipleship care of the Worship team
  • Communicating weekly with team on new music, schedules, service changes, etc.
  • Provide technical support in sound, media and lighting as needed (in coordination with Tech Director)
  • Manage musical instruments and their maintenance as well as prepare stage for services.
  • Manage computers, sound, lighting and video equipment used in worship (in coordination with Tech Director)
  • Develop and manage the music budget

 

Specific Duties Related to Youth Ministry

  • Lead an effective youth ministry program - implementing fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Lead Pastor in planning, developing and implementing all aspects of a balanced and engaging youth ministry.
  • Recruiting, training and shepherding volunteer youth staff.
  • Provide counseling and spiritual direction to youth and families on an individual basis as needed in concert with Lead Pastor
  • Maintain contact with students and parents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities. Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement.
  • Support parents in effectively fulfilling their Christian parenting roles, in concert with pastoral staff.
  • Assist in the development and oversight of the youth ministry budget
  • Seek to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries.
  • Other duties as required.

Personal/Professional Characteristics:

  • A bachelor’s degree completed or near completion (preferably in Music or Youth ministry).
  • 1-2 years of experience in a ministry situation leading a Worship Ministry/Youth Ministry.
  • Possesses an attitude of being faithful, available, and teachable 
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of technologies utilized in worship, including sound, lighting, computers, presentation and planning software, and video projection
  • Has experience in leading vocalists, musicians, and worship that transcends modern, contemporary, and traditional genres
  • Has experience as a leader and recruiter of volunteers, and the ability to develop and nurture talent in others
  • Demonstrates musical proficiency, with the ability to provide instruction, leadership, and expertise to others
  • Able to work with various worship music types/styles with excitement and effectiveness
  • Has a track record of success as a team builder
  • Is proficient in playing Guitar/Piano, with the ability to lead while singing/playing
  • Has the ability to work with chord charts, sheet music, and instrument-specific tablature
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of and willingness to serve within the doctrinal commitments of the church.
  • A sense of calling toward pastoral ministry and a lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders (1 Tim. 3:1-13; 2 Tim. 2; Titus 1:5-9).
