Grace Bible Church – Youth Pastor Job Description

Principle function: The Youth Pastor will provide leadership and development of both the Youth and Children’s ministries of Grace Bible Church and the surrounding community – making disciples and equipping leaders.

Main Responsibilities:

Youth Ministry – the Well (6th – 12th Grade)

  • Lead the youth volunteer team to strategize, plan, and implement all efforts at leading youth to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
  • Provide vision and leadership for all major events and activities connected with teens
    • Sunday school, Wednesday night gathering, camps, mission trips, retreats, etc.
  • Strategize, implement, and oversee discipleship and evangelism efforts for youth
  • Teach on a regular basis for youth gathering (Wed & Sun)
  • Assimilate new youth and their families into the family of Grace
  • Provide pastoral care, counsel, and direction for youth within Grace
  • Secure leadership, provide direction, and have budgetary accountability as required for the Youth ministry

Children’s Ministry – the Greenhouse (Ages 0 – 5th Grade)

  • Oversee the Greenhouse director’s tasks/responsibilities and budget
  • Provide vision and leadership for all major events and activities connected with Greenhouse
    • VBS, camps, Sunday School, curriculum choices, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Mature faith in Jesus Christ and a heart for discipleship
  • Loves being with youth of all ages and seeing them mature in their faith in Christ
  • Biblically Orthodox (as ascertained through education, previous experience, and future interviews)
  • A sense of calling to Youth Ministry
  • Bachelor’s degree at a minimum in a biblically specified field
  • Previous youth experience

Preferences:

  • Youthful charisma and a demonstrated ability to lead and teach youth effectively
  • Love for the local church and mission
  • Desire for further education
  • Capable of oversight, coordination, and team building within both the Youth and Children’s Ministries
  • Ability to communicate effectively and consistently with all leaders and parents
  • Ability to recruit and develop new leaders
  • Proficient organizational and budgetary skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal

Expectations:

  • Grow daily as a follower of Christ as a continual learner
  • Exemplify servant leadership
  • Contribute positively to the energy and efficiency of the Youth and Children’s Ministry teams and the overall staff of Grace - loves being part of the team
  • Comfortable working in a growing, mid-sized city
  • Pastoral duties as assigned: hospital visitations, weddings, funerals, etc
  • Willingness to preach on occasion or grow towards this ability with Lead Pastor
  • Ability & willingness to oversee other ministries as the need/opportunity arises

Reports to:

Lead Pastor – daily supervisor

Elder Team – ministry oversight

Salary Grade:

As recommended by the elders and established by the Finance Committee, this will be a Full-Time salaried position.

Grace Bible Church was founded in 1953 and is a bible-centric, teaching church located in Columbia, Missouri. Our mission is: "Growing In Christ to Grow Others, Together."

Our current worship service is a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary songs. We have a musically talented congregation and our worship team offers a mix of piano, guitars, bass, keyboard, violins, drums, and vocalists. Our congregation is diverse in age and demographics. 

 

We offer two worship services with the same expository message of God’s truth. Sunday Morning Sunday Schools are offered also at both hours. Dress is generally business casual with some wearing jeans while others prefer wearing suits and dresses. We provide specially designed services for children that are age appropriate during all worship services. 



Community:

Columbia is a rapidly growing community of about 126,000. The community is widely diverse as a university city and home of the University of Missouri. We are two hours from both Kansas City and St. Louis. 

 

Major industries are varied but include healthcare, higher education, and insurance.  We have several hospitals, including University Hospital, Boone Hospital, and Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. Other major employers include University of Missouri, Veterans United, State Farm Insurance, and Shelter Insurance.

 

Our community offers many elementary and secondary options including public schools Rock Bridge, Hickman, Battle, and Columbia Independent. Private high schools include Fr. Tolton Catholic, Christian Fellowship, and Heritage Academy (founded at GBC). We also have a strong home school community with several extracurricular and sports options.
