Formation Missional Outreach Director, Spiritual Formation, Central

Supervisor: Pastor of Spiritual Formation

VISION FOR THE BAY AND BEYOND

The Formation Missional Outreach Director will provide visionary, strategic, and directional leadership to assure the stewardship of over a million dollars of funding along with boots on the ground engagement that forms our people spiritually as seekers and followers of Jesus. We are committed to service, prayer and giving that truly helps the marginalized, victims of tragedy and abuse, and all who need the beauty and goodness of Jesus.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Formation Missional Outreach Director is an essential member of the Central Spiritual Formation Team and will help everyone in the Bay Area find and follow Jesus and be spiritually formed into his likeness by creating environments to live their lives UP in worship, IN community and OUT on mission.

This person works closely with the Pastor of Spiritual Formation, in collaboration with the Central Spiritual Formation Team, to execute vision and strategy for Menlo to effectively be “For the Bay” and the world in areas of gospel deeds and proclamation through evangelism, aid, justice, mercy and mission exposure to bring glory to God and Spiritual Formation to everyone.

Menlo Church is a multi-site church. The Central Spiritual Formation Team leads vision and strategy to execute at and serve our four campuses. See below on the Central Spiritual Formation Team

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Guides vision, strategy, and execution for missional outreach for the bay and beyond.
  2. Gathers high-capacity Spiritual Formation volunteers and equips them for ministry in collaboration with campus staff. Leads, encourages, and develops volunteers through 1:1 and group interactions and through Menlo’s leadership pipeline. Will specifically build Volunteer Teams and Leaders at each campus to execute local outreach initiatives/evangelism as well as Central Volunteer Teams and Leaders to execute and steward International Partnerships and engagement.
  3. Additional duties and special projects as assigned by Pastor of Spiritual Formation

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum 3-years’ experience leading in the church or parachurch with a focus on International and/or Local Missions/Outreach or Evangelism.
  • Demonstrated ability in strategy, administration, management, and execution of missional outreach equipping, events, and trips as well as local/international partnership vetting.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in personal evangelism and equipping others to engage in evangelism.
  • Demonstrated teachability, flexibility, and hunger for learning to increase personal and organizational effectiveness.
  • Experience serving on a volunteer team engaged in local and/or international missional outreach.
  • Experience serving as a small group leader.
  • College Graduate (Seminary Degree preferred).

  • Able to love, serve and lead the congregation and staff of Menlo Church in Missional Outreach as a pathway for Spiritual Formation.
  • Team player and team builder with a focus on the vision of the whole church
  • Positive attitude and high emotional intelligence
  • Strong administrative and interpersonal skills that ensure strategic execution.
  • Ability to lead effectively in front of small and large groups in training and equipping.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Office 365, Zoom, Teams.
  • Ability to learn new software, programs, and digital platforms.

Central Spiritual Formation Team

 

 

Pastor of Spiritual Formation

The Pastor of Spiritual Formation will help everyone in the Bay Area find and follow Jesus and be spiritually formed into his likeness by creating environments to live their lives UP in worship, IN community and OUT on mission. The Pastor of Spiritual Formation leads and supports the Central Spiritual Formation Team in this mission by assuring their success in Menlo-aligned goals through collaborative vision and strategy, clear communication and accountability, ongoing development and equipping, directional leadership, and fun. The Pastor of SF works cohesively with campus teams, teaching teams, NextGen leadership and mission partners (locally and globally) to assure strategically aligned paths of Spiritual Formation at Menlo Church.

The Pastor of Spiritual Formation reports directly to the Lead Pastor and serves as a part of the Transitional Leadership Team. The Spiritual Formation Team reports directly to the Pastor of Spiritual Formation.

Formation Engagement Coordinator

The Engagement Coordinator is an essential member of the Central Spiritual Formation Team and will help everyone in the Bay Area find and follow Jesus and be spiritually formed into his likeness by creating environments to live their lives UP in worship, IN community and OUT on mission. The Engagement Coordinator assures engagement across all campuses by providing tools and dashboards for tracking and executing strategies, programming, and pathways for all Spiritual Formation Teams along with developing, executing, and tracking all administration for volunteer onboarding for Campus and Central Spiritual Formation teams. The Engagement Coordinator will also provide administrative support for the Spiritual Formation Team as determined by the Pastor of Spiritual Formation.

Formation Environments Director

Environments Director is an essential member of the Central Spiritual Formation Team and will help everyone in the Bay Area find and follow Jesus and be spiritually formed into his likeness by creating environments to live their lives UP in worship, IN community and OUT on mission. The Environments Director will provide strategic, logistical, and administrative leadership for centrally driven Environments for Spiritual Formation as well as recruit, equip, resource and train volunteer teams centrally and in cooperation with campuses to create environments for Spiritual Formation which include events, retreats, and trips for Connections, Adult Discipleship and Missional Outreach, Prayer, and Care.

Missional Outreach Director

The Missional Outreach Director is an essential member of the Central Spiritual Formation Team and will help everyone in the Bay Area find and follow Jesus and be spiritually formed into his likeness by creating environments to live their lives UP in worship, IN community and OUT on mission. The Missional Outreach Director works closely with the Pastor of Spiritual Formation, in collaboration with the Central Spiritual Formation Team, to execute vision and strategy for Menlo to effectively be “For the Bay” and the world in areas of gospel deeds and proclamation through evangelism, aid, justice, mercy and mission exposure to bring glory to God and Spiritual Formation to everyone.

Formation Belonging Director

The Belonging Director is an essential member of the Central Spiritual Formation Team and will help everyone in the Bay Area find and follow Jesus and be spiritually formed into his likeness by creating environments to live their lives UP in worship, IN community and OUT on mission. The Belonging Director works closely with the Pastor of Spiritual Formation, in collaboration with the Central Spiritual Formation Team, to execute vision and strategy across all campuses to assure belonging that leads to Spiritual Formation which will include care, prayer, groups, classes, and connection. The Belonging Director has a dotted-line relationship with the campus Directors of Connections and Adult Discipleship.

We will know we are winning when:

  • We hear stories of people coming to faith every month at Menlo and they are connected into an environment of discipleship within 72 hours.
  • We hear stories of new people on every campus, every week at Menlo and they are personally connected with within 72 hours and invited into an environment of formation fitting to their journey.
  • Every week we hear stories of followers of Jesus taking risks on their journey that is forming them more into the likeness of Jesus (prayer, fruit of the Spirit, gospel proclamation and deeds, etc.). These stories are shared and celebrated with all our staff, elders, and key leaders.
  • Our volunteers are recruiting/equipping more volunteers than we are (and we’re recruiting/equipping machines).
  • Anyone who has been at Menlo for more than one year has been personally invited to an environment for formation fitting to their journey.
  • Anyone who has been at Menlo for two years has served in a Menlo local outreach environment.
  • Anyone who has been at Menlo for three years can articulate God’s heart for evangelism and missions and has had opportunity to learn how to share their faith and has shared it.
  • Anyone who has been at Menlo four years has been invited to see international missions first-hand.
  • We hire one staff member a year from within our congregation.
