LivingStone Church of Corydon, Iowa

"Helping people know, love, and obey Jesus"

A little about us:  In August of 2019, LivingStone Church (LSC) was launched in our small, rural community. Our community has a lot to offer, in terms of opportunity for growth in both industry and the Kingdom of God. Corydon is home to around 1,500 people and serves as the county seat.  Corydon is in the heart of southern Iowa, a land filled with acres of corn and the densest population of the biggest white-tailed deer anywhere!  We are dedicated to serving the people of our local community, while also being obedient to Matthew 28:19–20.  We believe in a church structure where primary leadership is provided by the elders in accordance with 1 Timothy 3, 5, and Titus 1, in which the pastor is a member.  The congregation does contribute to major decisions of the church.  We just moved to our new building we purchased in the Spring of 2023 after meeting Sunday mornings in the community movie theater.  We encourage weekly small group communities, bible studies, and student ministry and are excited to use our new space for these. Although LSC is established as non-denominational, we do adhere closely to the Statement of Faith of the Southern Baptist Convention and occasionally make use of their available resources.  Our theology, in short, is salvation by faith alone.

A little about you:  We want a pastor who will strengthen the elder team by thriving in his God-given strengths while promoting others to thrive in theirs.  While sitting at the round table, you will provide key leadership, vision, wisdom, and follow-through in helping accomplish the work which the Lord has called us to do.  You love people and enjoy meeting, conversing with, and getting to know our community.  You want to seek and help create opportunities to make LSC more visible and active in our community.

Other possibilities for duties, responsibilities, and qualifications include:

  • Education, temperament, and experience for preaching on Sundays in the sole pastoral position at LSC.
  • The vision and discipline to help create and sustain new ministries that will benefit both our congregation and community.  This includes understanding the philosophy of ministry and how to create and organize programs and systems.
  • Provide active leadership in the ministry to youth.  This will likely involve pursuing opportunities to be visible at events where students and their families are present.
  • Love people as Christ did and have some understanding of life in a small town.
  • Help develop and maintain a ministry where all individuals and families of LSC are acknowledged, visited, and cared for, thus helping fulfill John 13:35 "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of both new and existing small groups, Bible studies, or even a mid-morning "coffee with the Pastor" discussion group.
  • Demonstrate compassion for the sick and needy of our church and community by visiting them in hospitals and homes.
  • Champion opportunities to help LSC become greater in prayer.
  • Oversee our regular participation in the Lord's Supper.
  • Assume an active role in the determination and development of the spiritual gifting of the individuals at LSC
  • Provide an accurate accounting of weekly activities and time management practices.
  • He should be humble, thoughtful, acquainted with hard work, an excellent communicator, have a heart for those who have been hurt, and enjoy getting out of the office to meet people where they are.  Bring your boots!

After we've read your resume, here are some questions you should be prepared to answer when we call to chat over the phone:

  • What are some of your successes in ministry?  What are some of your failures or difficulties?
  • What authors or ministers do you read or listen to for guidance, counsel, or inspiration?
  • We'll surprise you with some others.
