Associate Pastor (Administrative and Discipleship) Job Description

 

 

Potential Candidate will:

 

  1. Be a man who loves the Lord and His church and fits the descriptions of an elder in 1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:6–9.
  2. Be a man with administrative/organizational leadership giftings able to handle details.
  3. Be a man who can teach in a discipleship capacity (the role is not simply administrative).
  4. Be a man who fits in with the doctrine and culture of Aboite Baptist Church and current staff.

 

 

  1. General Description of Aboite Baptist Church

 

The mission of Aboite Baptist Church (ABC) is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for God’s glory. Our mantra in seeking to accomplish our task is “Living on Mission for Jesus.” We live out our mission in and around Fort Wayne, IN. ABC aligns with 9Marks ecclesiology and has a reformed Baptist soteriology. Currently the Lord is blessing us with steady growth numerically, financially, and evangelistically. The prospective associate pastor would join a staff consisting of a senior pastor and a resident church planter/youth pastor, as well as a ministry assistant.

 

  1. Essential Competencies and Skills

 

The associate pastor will be responsible for administrative duties as designated by the senior pastor. The associate pastor will work with the senior pastor to create, manage, and execute oversight of the discipleship at ABC and encourage our people to live missional lives. Some of the oversight includes Life Groups, outreach, assimilation, equipping, assisting ministry teams (ie children’s church), oversight of our D-Groups, and pastoral care. The associate pastor is not responsible to do the work of the ministry in all of these areas, but is required to equip and oversee the designated areas and any others that may be added by the elders. In order to accomplish these daily and weekly tasks, the associate pastor must possess administrative and organizational leadership skills. As is the case for a pastoral position, the associate pastor must possess an appropriate level of communication and relational skills. Additional competencies include maintaining a humble spirit and commitment to teamwork with other elders, staff, and church members as well as maintaining an appropriate discretion and confidentiality regarding personal information of the people of ABC.

 

Discipleship Pastor Job Description

 

  • Responsibilities and Expectations

 

The responsibilities of the Discipleship Pastor can be broken down into 7 major areas:

 

  1. Administrative – Help with strategically implementing Christ’s vision for the church. Manage building and property. Oversee the logistics, schedule, and events of the church. Manage and or assist with staff tasks, membership processes, money, important church documents, etc.

 

  1. Life Groups - Develop and lead our church in a gospel-centered discipleship strategy for adults that is consistent with the values and mission of the church. Approve, suggest, or develop curriculum for all Bible study groups. Oversee an effective leadership development process. Ensure effective attendance records (including contact information of all attendees) are kept and then loaded into the church database management system. Ensure sound doctrine is maintained in all teaching environments in the church. Recruit and train teachers for all Life Groups. Develop healthy relationships with leaders and ensure they are well-resourced to succeed in their groups.

 

  1. Outreach – Assist with developing and leading our church in a strategy to engage, love, and minister to our community. Coordinate quarterly community outreach events. Train, equip, and send disciples to effectively share the gospel with our community. Build key relationships with leaders in our community. Plan local mission projects. Promote our church and events to our community.

 

  1. Assimilation - Develop and lead our church in a strategy to help guests feel welcomed, take next steps, get connected in Life Groups, become members, and engaged in service. Oversee welcome team, and guest follow up. Ensure that current church information is available in print and online.

 

  1. Equipping - Ensure that every member is well trained to serve the church, share the gospel, and disciple others. Regularly assess the current needs of the body and provide training accordingly. Develop classes and training to better equip our church to make disciples.

 

  1. Ministry Teams - Determine the ministry needs of our church, help members identify their gifting, and develop systems to help people serve. Develop and recruit leaders and volunteers to serve on ministry teams. Help with pastoral oversight with the men’s and women’s ministries. Work with ministry leaders of kids, students, & senior adult ministries to ensure a cohesive discipleship plan.

 

  1. General Pastoral Duties - This position is first and foremost a pastoral position. Therefore, there are several pastoral duties that this person will be expected to perform. Conduct weddings/funerals. Provide Biblical counseling. Attend staff meetings. Attend worship services. Coordinate with the elders for the budget of the church. Perform other duties as assigned by the senior pastor.
