Job Description
The Community Formation Pastor will oversee adult spiritual formation ministries, the
welcoming and integration of new families into discipleship and membership and the strategic
outreach and service ministry to our surrounding communities.
The Community Formation Pastor is a co-leader of Good News, working alongside the
Leadership Team, staff and other leaders to carry out the mission of the church and will work
primarily in the areas of community formation and worship.
Accountability
For governmental issues, the Community Formation Pastor is accountable to the Elders of Good
News Community Church (GNCC). For ministry accomplishment, this position is accountable to
God, and the Leadership Team of Good News Community Church. For conflict resolution
between co-pastors they are accountable to pastor-parish relations team
General Duties & Qualifications
The Community Formation Pastor will lead by word and example and encourage the church to
accomplish its mission. Primary duties include sharing God’s Word and community formation,
centering the church on the mission/vision of Good News through consistent communication.
Other responsibilities include devotion to prayer and mobilizing volunteers for effective
discipleship. In addition, they will fulfill all other duties as assigned by the Leadership Team.
This individual will meet the qualifications of an Elder as described in scripture, and will serve as
a non-voting Teaching Elder within our Board of Elders.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with the expectation to pursue a Masters degree in a
theology-related field and ordination if not already attained. (Alternatively, pursue
commissioning through the RCA)
One year of experience in a mid-sized church (i.e. 250 plus congregants) leading spiritual
formation in the areas of Adult Discipleship, Christian education and/or Worship is
preferred
Decisive and proven leader with the ability to encourage, empower, and coach other
leaders and teams
Organized, strong delegator and follow-through, ability to cast and execute ministry
vision
Ability to develop and organize effective ministry teams made up of staff and volunteer
leaders
Ability to create a positive and intentional leadership culture
Proficiency in technology needed for worship, music, and general communication
Sharing and Teaching God’s Word
Coordinate with other leaders in developing annual preaching and worship calendars
Accurately communicates the gospel and preserves the purity of the doctrines of our
Christian faith in and through discipleship processes
Leads and equips others to become spiritually mature through community formation
Leads in conjunction with Worship Leader(s) to develop God-honoring, corporate
worship experiences
Pastoral Care
Work with Good News Elders to balance the pastoral care load
Primary short-term counselor on staff
Leading and Developing Leaders
Invites the congregation and volunteers into deeper areas of Christian growth and
development
Motivates, leads and equips volunteer teams such as worship and community
discipleship groups
General Leadership Duties
Effectively delegates to other ministry leaders for ministry planning and communication
Communicates regularly with team members (Office staff, Worship Leaders, Community
or discipleship leaders)
Works with Co-Pastor to provide staff oversight and performance review
Provides needed reports to the Leadership Team, Executive Team, and staff
Technology and Creative Arts
Recruit, train and empower congregants for service in the tech booth (audio, visual,
etc.)
Assemble needed teams to assist in the area of creative arts
