POSITION TITLE: NextGen Associate Director

ACCOUNTABLE TO: NextGen Director

DIRECT REPORTS: None

PURPOSE OF POSITION:  The full-time NextGen Associate Director will be responsible for spiritually equipping students, grades 6-12, to be whole-hearted, lifelong followers of Christ in our church community by teaching youth, recruiting and supporting volunteers, supporting families, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Student Ministries program that support St. Peter's by the Sea Presbyterian Church's mission to experience the transformational love of Jesus through authentic community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Recruit, inspire and train volunteers to participate in student ministry and mission events, Christian education classes and large and small group gatherings.
  • Teach the Christian faith, consistent with SPBTS’s theology in a developmentally appropriate and user-friendly way.
  • In coordination with the NextGen Director, plan, execute and evaluate programs to grow the Christian faith of students and their families.
  • Outreach to un-churched students in the community.
  • Build and nurture individual relationships with students and parents, demonstrating the principles of Jesus’ teaching.
  • Perform other duties as needed/assigned as a member of the staff.

Qualifications:

  • Committed, mature believer and growing follower of Jesus Christ.
  • Minimum of 2 years leading youth in a Christian education program.
  • Demonstrated skills teaching students aged 11-18.
  • Proven ability to relate to and recruit adult volunteers.
  • College degree or equivalent experience youth and family ministry, or related field. Seminary education preferred.
  • Competence with essential computer programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing and maximizing financial resources.
  • Sound judgment, with experience in problem solving, project management and strategic planning.
  • Courageous, confident and humble servant/leader.
  • Intellectually curious, with a contagious enthusiasm for learning.
  • Experience in setting boundaries with students, holding them to age-appropriate standards of respectful behavior.
  • Experience ministering to families of youth involved in youth ministry programs.
  • Attentive to detail and disciplined with priorities.
  • Aligns with the theology of the Presbyterian Church USA, St. Peter's Vision and what it means for St. Peter’s to be a Matthew 25 Church.

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Position: Full time, exempt
  • Work Schedule: Typical schedule is Sunday through Thursday, with some evenings and early mornings required, 40 hours/week
  • In-person position: The position is an in-person, on-campus position with occasional off-campus activities
  • Annual compensation: $64,480

The physical demands and work environment described below represent the activities and surroundings of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position leads the youth, and their families ministry functions of this church. It requires in-person attendance during most core business hours, and some evenings and weekend hours. The position requires frequent use of a computer and must be able to engage in and lead, sometimes vigorous physical activities with students. The work is typically performed on the church campus, with occasional intense noise levels, and normal interactions with office staff and visitors, and off campus meet-ups in public and in-home visits. The position requires talking on the telephone and in-person with individuals and groups. The position may require lifting and carrying of materials/equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. on occasion. The position requires reading and responding to documents in hard copy and electronic form as well as other electronic media. This is a drug-free and non-smoking building and environment.
