POSITION SUMMARY

Epikos Church is a thriving community of faith, intentionally pursuing multiethnic ministry, gathering in three locations in the Greater Milwaukee area. We are prayerfully seeking the right leader to help maintain the culture of Epikos in reaching out to non-believers throughout the city, while navigating the opportunities and challenges ahead in expanding a multisite, multiethnic, and intergenerational vision across Milwaukee and beyond.

The first and primary consideration for any Lead Pastor candidate will be that he meets the character qualifications of an Elder outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–12, Titus 1:5–9, and 1 Peter 5:1–3. This man will be lovingly and honestly accountable to the Elder board. Together with the elders, the executive pastor, and the campus pastors he will cast vision, lead strategy, and oversee operational leadership.

He will be a gifted mentor who will shepherd our congregation, our leadership, and our staff to discover and use the gifts they have been given as we strive to make more and better disciples.  He will deliver God’s Word with faithfulness to the text in a compelling and relevant fashion. He will help foster our passion for the lost and teach us to tell our own transformation stories. He will ideally have a history of courageously leading healthy teams, growing churches, and helping to guide the church in new directions as needed. The humble and worshipful candidate will authentically promote, model, and teach us to live our lives in worship to God through his leadership.

OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lead Pastor will embrace and embody the following goals:

  • Have the capacity to think strategically and work within a fairly complex multisite, multi-staff context, with the ability to empower others and develop a team approach to leadership
  • Collaborate with the broader staff to develop and deliver weekly and seasonal worship services in a contemporary format
  • Along with the pastoral team, staff, and leadership, implement strategies necessary to align the ministries and the direction of the church to the stated mission and core values
  • Empower the leadership and staff to work together toward maintaining a missional focus for the church and a value-based congregational culture
  • Prayerfully evaluate, adjust, and set new objectives with the leadership team to cast a clear vision for the future of Epikos as well as developing new ministries as needed
  • Continue to focus on the biblical truth of making more disciples while cultivating better disciples through our church ministries
  • Work with the pastoral team, staff, and church leadership to develop a mission-driven annual plan and budget
  • Work with the Executive Pastor to hire essential staff and successfully integrate them into the staff and ministry of Epikos
  • Cultivate the existing leadership development among staff through discipleship while also facilitating a culture that identifies and develops new leaders within the church
  • Prepare and deliver expository sermons that are compelling, relevant, and uncompromising to the truth of Scripture
  • Serve as the lead for preaching in a role that is shared among the pastoral team
  • Lead the congregation toward significant spiritual decisions as evidenced by people proclaiming their faith, being baptized, and growing in discipleship

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Model a growing, vibrant, personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading
  • Active prayer life
  • Consistent spiritual disciplines
  • Displayed evidence of God-glorifying spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22–23)
  • Proactively love, mentor, and shepherd the people of God with the love of Christ
  • Approachable and available to the leadership, staff, and the congregation
  • Have a burden for those who don’t know Jesus or haven’t fully surrendered to him
  • Courageous and not afraid of charting a new course for Epikos Church

QUALIFICATIONS

  • He will be a humble learner who preferably holds a master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited, theologically-aligned seminary, with some formal education in biblical languages
