The primary role of the Executive Pastor is to oversee the daily operations and ministries of the church. The Executive Pastor assists pastors, ministry leaders, and deacons to ensure they are effective in fulfilling the vision and mission established by the elders. He helps to build the culture of the church leadership ministry teams. He facilitates a strong, trust-based working relationship with the Lead Teaching Pastor by closely supporting him. He is to have mutual communication and cooperation with the Lead Teaching Pastor. The Executive Pastor is accountable to the elder board.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff and Ministry Development: 40%

The Executive Pastor facilitates the oversight of daily operational decisions regarding ministries of the church. He will ensure that ministries are being conducted in accordance with the mission and vision of the church as approved by the elders.

  • He is responsible for recruiting, selection, evaluation, organization, and termination of present and future office staff. Hiring and terminations will be preapproved by the elders.
  • He reviews staff job descriptions and conducts annual evaluations to encourage creativity and efficiency.
  • He ensures that the mission of the church is achieved through specific, measurable goals for staff and ministry leaders.
  • He establishes church policies and procedures that effectively facilitate the mission and vision established by the elders.
  • He assists the Personnel Committee by attending Personnel Committee meetings as needed to provide information, to enable communication with staff, and to facilitate tasks such as annual reviews of vocational elders.

Church Administration: 40%

The Executive Pastor ensures that general operations of the church adhere to the mission and vision established by the elders.

  • He oversees the on-going operations of the church including facility management, communications, and operating policies.
  • He identifies and implements means to increase efficiency of church operations and resources.
  • He participates as needed in the meetings of the Finance Committee.
  • He oversees the development of the annual budget based on the mission and vision established by the elders working with the financial secretary and treasurer.
  • He assists the Personnel Committee, as needed, to develop policy and compensation guidelines to recommend to the elder board for approval.
  • He oversees the deacons to ensure the physical needs of the facility, individual needs within the body and administrative needs are met.

General Pastoral Responsibilities: 20%

The Executive Pastor actively engages in an effective personal ministry to the congregation through teaching groups or classes, hospitality, and discipling.

  • He is available for preaching, teaching, counseling, weddings, funerals, etc. as needed.
  • He looks for opportunities to share Christ and encourage believers to mature in Christ.
  • He provides counseling and encouragement to individuals in the church.
  • The Executive Pastor does not let his responsibilities crowd out his personal walk and renewal before God. He has moments of personal retreat, prayer, solitude, and meditation on God’s word.
  • The Executive Pastor engages in accountability relationships with the elders of the church and with godly mentors outside the church.

HOURS:

  • Exempt, Full-time, Salary, 4-day office week plus responsibilities on Sundays. Some evenings required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

  • 10-15 years of business or ministry leadership experience
  • Certification or degree in related field and/or advanced training in biblical Christian theology or biblical leadership
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of effective leadership, judgment, and good moral character
  • Ability to listen well and speak out, remaining solution orientated
  • Proficient in electronic tools like Microsoft Office

REQUIREMENTS:

  • He must be a mature Christian with a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the character of an elder (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1)
  • Work location: Hudsonville, MI 49426, therefore he must reliably commute or relocate
