Overview:
Powell Butte Christian Church is seeking an Associate Pastor with a passion for discipline believers and the ability to lead staff as well as ministry leaders. The Associate Pastor will, under the supervision of the Senior Pastor, execute the vision cast
by the Board of Elders for the discipleship of our congregation. You will accomplish this by focusing primarily on overseeing, assisting, and guiding the church staff through their different ministry responsibilities and ensuring all church ministries are
aligned around the purpose of making disciples of Jesus Christ and equipping them for ministry.

Spiritual Life
- Personal responsibility for him and his family to maintain a growing spiritual life, including an ongoing accountability relationship and personal devotional life.
- Be an active member of the PBCC family, regularly attending weekly service and participating in a small group.
- Provide an image of what a godly person looks like by imitating Jesus both in the workplace and outside of the church.
Relational Leadership
- Promote and create healthy and appropriate relationships within the Body of Christ.
- Maintain an active and engaged team relationship with the PBCC staff.
- Promote a positive, can-do approach to a healthy, growing ministry.
- Demonstrate character-based leadership with both paid and volunteer staff.
- Cultivate an environment of warm, welcoming, and hospitable relationships in the ministry.
- Model discipleship through authentic and relevant relationships, actively being a leader of ministry leaders.
- Support the Senior Pastor in the accomplishment of the church’s mission through ministry effectiveness evaluation, discernment, decision-making, planning, and the overall direction of the church staff.
- Work closely with the head of each ministry to make sure each ministry understands the vision of the church and how it directly impacts their ministry.
- Serve as the “face” of the staff on Sundays by being available in the lobby and entry areas to greet attendees and be available for questions or prayer.
Responsibilities
- Develop, organize, and implement the discipleship elements of the church ministry.
- Research and develop the best discipleship process for PBCC, including the incorporation of present Life Group, Bible Study, and Sunday School models.
- Train/model the discipleship process.
- Recruit people into the discipleship process.
- Identify potential leaders within the congregation. Recruit them to take more active roles and equip them for ministry.
- Continue to educate leadership and the church body about the discipleship process.
- Evaluate and improve the implementation of the discipleship process.
- Administration of membership and ministries.
- Develop, support, and advocate for small group and ministry leaders so they can effectively integrate people into service and learning opportunities in their groups and ministries.
- Management of life groups – supporting and training small group leaders and advocating for life group membership.
- Oversee the integration of newcomers to our community, encouraging them to become participating church members.
- Oversee Sunday mornings volunteer groups such as the welcome center, coffee, communion, and special event tables.
- Serve as the primary contact for visitors. Keeps track of attendance and coordinates follow-up contact with new guests and members who have not attended church for several weeks.
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor in designing and upholding a ministry structure based on the church’s current goals and resources.
- Champion the development of systems and infrastructure for all leadership and ministry areas that support the healthy, long-term growth of the church.
- Support and advocate for staff development at PBCC.
- Meet weekly with the Pastoral Team to develop a shared mission and vision for the Church Staff.
- Serve as “coordinator” for Staff Days Away, team building, staff pastoral care, and other Staff Development opportunities.
- Be complimentary with the pastoral team – someone with complementary skills and strengths to come alongside the Pastoral team and staff to help move the church forward.
- Work with the Senior Pastor to ensure weekend services are fully planned and well executed.
- Approximately three to four times throughout the year, develop and preach messages educating and encouraging people in the process of discipleship and the importance of connection within the church body.
- Be prepared to be the emergency backup speaker in case of last-minute need. Always have an “emergency sermon” ready.
- Perform other duties as assigned in keeping with the servant’s heart that Christ modeled.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably from a Christian college or university with beliefs consistent with PBCC statement of faith, with an emphasis on Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Discipleship, Education, or Church Leadership.
- A seminary/Graduate Degree is helpful, preferably from a Christian college or university with beliefs consistent with PBCC's statement of faith.
- Minimum of five years of experience as an Associate or Youth Pastor.
