SCOPE OF POSITION
The Discipleship Pastor is responsible for the spiritual formation and care of the people of Faith Fellowship. This Pastor will oversee the spiritual formation of adults and youth (grades 7-12) and work with leaders in those areas to ensure that adults and youth have a place to be known, grow in their relationship with Jesus, and serve. This Pastor’s passion will be for each person to find their place in the church family and experience intentional spiritual growth in community. This is a full-time position.
QUALIFICATIONS
-- Mature and growing Christ-follower with a strong passion to invite others into community and help them grow in their spiritual walk within community.
-- Able to cast a vision for and develop effective discipleship, community life and youth ministries.
-- Has demonstrated love within personal family context, (e.g., if married, for child(ren) and spouse).
-- Has demonstrated the ability to lead a fruitful, Spirit-led ministry in either volunteer or staff position(s), including experience in ministries relevant to this role.
-- Highly relational with an infectious love for people. Warm, enthusiastic and cheerful disposition. Has demonstrated a heart to reach those who do not yet know Christ.
-- Able to develop systems and structures. Has effective verbal and written communication skills.
-- Proficient with online modes of communication including social media platforms.
-- Self-motivated and an effective motivator of leaders and teams. An equipper and builder of teams: recruiting, training, delegating, empowering, and encouraging teams.
-- Exercises leadership with grace and flexibility. Has a teachable spirit. Humble, hungry, and emotionally intelligent.
-- Committed to the vision, mission, beliefs and ethos of Faith Fellowship. Supportive of the Lead Pastor.
-- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required (ministry related degree preferred).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Discipleship (40%): Develop and implement an effective discipleship strategy, encouraging the spiritual formation of men and women into the image of Christ within community:
-- Direct the small group ministry. Small group ministry is our church’s primary strategy for assimilation, discipleship, fellowship and mission.
-- Oversee small groups, Bible studies, and other discipleship ministries.
-- Recruit, coach, or provide coaching system for small group leaders.
-- Develop and implement strategies by which new believers are encouraged in their journey
towards spiritual maturity.
Community Life (30%): Endeavor to find a place for each adult to be connected in both community life and service according to his or her giftedness and passion:
-- Oversee all connections/newcomers ministries.
-- Integrate new members into the life of the church, especially encouraging their integration
into a Small Group.
-- Guide individuals to ministry areas where they are empowered to serve according to their
giftedness, passion and personal style.
-- Develop and implement strategies to increase overall connectedness within our church
community.
-- Personally building relationships within our congregation and in our community.
Youth (20%): Oversee the planning, execution and evaluation of all youth ministries programming and events:
-- Manage the recruitment and training of volunteers and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to student ratios.
-- Be an advocate for youth and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of students in the local church and community.
-- Help plan, develop, and implement special outreaches, retreats and mission trips.
-- Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and resources that relate to youth and student ministries.
Other (10%):
-- Share in the pastoral care and counseling ministries of the church.
-- Expected to preach six Sunday mornings a year.
-- Participate regularly in other ways in worship services and have a high visibility on Sunday mornings with a friendly, outgoing, and personal presence.
-- Participate in weekly staff meetings, quarterly Ministry Team Leaders meetings and other appropriate meetings.
-- Collaborate with other like-minded churches & ministry leaders in this community for increased Kingdom impact together.
ACCOUNTABILITY
A. Reports to the Lead Pastor.
B. Each discipleship, youth & community life team reports to and partners with the Discipleship Pastor.
