General Description

Capital’s Student Ministries and Emerging Adults Pastor is primarily responsible for the discipleship of our teens (grades 6-12) and emerging adults (18 to 25-year-olds), inspiring and leading them to own their faith, partner in spiritual friendship, and invest their time, talents, and resources sacrificially in the work that God is doing in our community and our world. They will oversee both the Salt Lake City and Park City student ministries, working in conjunction with Capital’s Executive Pastor, staff, interns, and volunteers to develop and execute a ministry plan (e.g. gatherings, small groups, events, etc.) in which teens can grow in their love of God and their love of others. Our current model of ministry includes gatherings for students during our weekend services as well as regular events and small groups. We are excited for the next leader to come to our community with a vision to disciple our teens in creative ways. Additionally, Capital’s Student Ministries and Emerging Adults Pastor will also oversee our emerging adult ministry. Our emerging adults currently gather for a mid-week service, which includes worship, teaching, groups, and other activities. Capital’s emerging adult ministry is a life-giving force in our church community, and along with our student ministry, is poised for catalytic growth and integration into the larger community under the direction of a new leader!

Behavioral Qualities

  • Christ-Centered Discipleship – The most important thing about you is your discipleship to Jesus. Period.
  • Humble Leadership – The strongest leaders embrace feedback, seek to understand it, and put it to good use. They can learn from anyone—especially the people they lead.
  • Courageous Communication – Brave leaders give candid feedback as they inspire and support staff, volunteers, and attendees toward growth in discipleship and leadership.
  • Really Courageous Communication – The bravest leaders speak truth to power, and our lead pastor really wants to hear what you think, how you feel, and how he can become a better leader.
  • Fiercely-Committed Friendship – Wise leaders maintain an unflinching commitment to engage others in life-giving crucial conversations, because we know if we don’t talk it out, we’ll act it out.
  • Insatiable Hunger – Effective leaders have a sustainable drive to go above and beyond what’s required.
  • Life-Long Learning – Failure is always an option. Growth isn’t.
  • Empathetic Listening – When you listen to people, you don’t just understand them. They understand that you understand them—even when you don’t agree with them.
  • High Emotional Quotient – An effective leader is emotionally intelligent, exhibiting an intuitive sense of the needs of individuals, the subtleties of group dynamics, and the impact of words, tone, and body language on how people experience love.
  • Solutions Orientation – Leaders eat problems for breakfast and innately see them as opportunities to increase our trust in God and develop ourselves and our teams.
  • Strategic Planning – Leading requires a never-ceasing focus on the big picture of our vision.
  • Tactical Thinking – Implementation requires patient attention to details as we partner with one another to make our vision a reality.
  • People Prioritization – Great systems serve people, but people always matter more than policies and procedures.

While we recognize that every disciple’s path is different, we believe three behaviors are essential to the life of a disciple: owning, partnering, and investing. We inspire people to own their faith by taking responsibility for their personal journey with Jesus. We encourage them to partner with other disciples by devoting themselves to fellowship as we experience life together. And we call them to invest by giving their time, talents, and resources by serving others sacrificially. We trust God as he brings together the right team at the right time for our journey together at Capital Church.

About Capital Church

Capital Church exists “to lead people to become Christ-centered disciples.” Discipleship is at the center of everything we do. If you had to sum up our community in a word, it would be the word “disciple.” Jesus summed up the life of the disciple in the Gospel of Matthew when he said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:37-39). As a team, we are fiercely committed to making disciples of Jesus within our church, our community, and around the world. We recognize the most effective way to make disciples is to be disciples, so we prioritize the spiritual journey of each member of our Capital staff.  How you’re doing is more important than what you’re doing, and we hold each other up with encouragement and accountability as we journey together.

Capital Church meets in Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah. Both locations offer kids ministry, student ministry, small groups ministry, and outreach. We currently host 4 weekend gatherings: two Saturday services (5:00pm in Park City, 7:00pm in Salt Lake) and two Sunday services (9:15am and 11:00am in Salt Lake).
