The Big Picture
West Side Church is looking for a Pastor of Discipleship who will oversee and infuse discipleship into the church ministries at West Side. These ministries include our Family Team (Birth-H.S.), Life Groups, and Internal Church Ministries (volunteer-led ministries). While oversight of these areas is expected, what we are seeking is someone who will disciple these leaders and teach them to disciple within the context of their own ministries.
The Church
West Side Church was planted by Conservative Baptist Northwest in Yakima, Washington in 1953. Since then, the church has strived to faithfully fulfill the great commission and to teach the full counsel of God’s Word. Between 2002 and 2013, God used West Side to plant three churches. In 2019, the leadership of the church changed from a Senior Pastor to a Pastoral Leadership Team (presently this consists of three positions). These three pastors, along with nine lay elders, are elected by the body to lead and shepherd the church.
Our mission is to reach our world for Christ, by building mature disciples, all for the glory of God. We strive to do this through large group and small group gatherings, our personal devotions and pursuit of Christ, and in local and global mission work.
The age of attendees spans all ages from birth through people in their 90’s. There is a growing number of young families; the Boomer generation is well represented; with a faithful senior age population.
The Candidate
We are prayerfully seeking a Pastor of Discipleship Ministries to serve on our Pastoral Leadership Team. The candidate should have a passion for discipleship, a holistic approach to family ministry, a commitment to small group ministries, and the desire to work with a team of leaders for a common goal. Above all, we seek someone who deeply loves God and lives for His glory.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be deeply in love with the Lord and continually be cultivating this relationship in his life.
2. Exhibit Christ-like character according to the qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:2-7.
3. Must exemplify characteristics of a godly servant with proper motives. (1 Peter 5:1-4)
4. Agreement with West Side’s established Articles of Faith, By-laws, mission and discipleship strategy.
5. Must be driven by a heart to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
6. Must have at least a master’s degree in a theological discipline.
7. Must demonstrate skills in expository Bible teaching/preaching.
8. Must have at least five years of experience in children, youth, or family ministries.
9. Must have a proven track record of making disciples who make disciples.
10. Must have a teachable spirit.
11. Must have a WSC-approved ordination or be willing to pursue ordination in the first year of service.
