Who we are
At Waypoint Christian Church, we believe “church” is more about the people than it is about a building or programs. We are a place where people can connect with real people to worship Christ, receive instruction from the Scriptures, meet one another’s needs, pray, and evangelize.
Waypoint is composed of U.S. Military Members, Department of Defense / Government employees, contractors, expatriates, and German Nationals who love Jesus and His word and are committed to following Him. English-speaking Americans make up the large majority of our congregation, however several members are multilingual.
The vast majority of Waypoint’s members are here on a temporary basis, commonly ranging from 2-4 years. This includes both active-duty military and DOD civilians. We count it a blessing to have a sanctuary where we can fellowship and build up one another in Christ. It is also a privilege to disciple and equip these families to minister to others around them here in the KMC and prepare them as they will be sent to their new assignments where they can reach others around the world with the Gospel.
The summer months are the customary “transition season”, when many faithful families are sent out to new locations. This is followed by a similar influx of new faces with giftings and talents that the Lord provides to fill the ranks of dedicated servants, grow the church, and sustain the various ministries.
Due to the nature of this community, Waypoint can seem both new and old, familiar and fresh. God has been faithful to Waypoint Christian Church in continuously raising up servants and leaders as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission, and take the Gospel to the local body in Germany and beyond.
What we believe
We are a Bible-believing church and hold to the principles outlined in Scripture defining the main elements of the local church, to include: worship, evangelism, fellowship, discipleship and ministry to others. We believe the church is a body of believers, with Jesus Christ as the head, under the guiding power and influence of the Holy Spirit. We believe that the local church is the primary method for bringing about salvation for the lost.
We believe that the Bible is the most trustworthy and supreme authority for understanding God’s plan for creation. Furthermore, the Bible is the written word of God that is inspired by the Holy Spirit, and written through human authors. The Bible is God’s love letter to all of humanity and is the final authority in every issue it communicates.
We believe that God has existed for eternity as three distinct and equal persons: God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ, who is both fully God and fully man, lived a completely sinless life, and offered Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of all humanity. The Holy Spirit is also a full and equal person of the Trinity, who convicts the world of the need for the Savior and indwells each believer in Christ.
We believe that the Holy Spirit helps us to understand His Word and His will, and to pray and that He transforms us into His spiritual image.
We believe that all of mankind is separated from God because of sin. We believe that salvation is possible only because of the Person and complete work of Christ on the cross. We are personally saved when we repent of our sins and turn to Jesus in faith.
We practice believer’s baptism by immersion as a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, and we view the Lord’s Supper also as symbolic of the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. We invite Christians from all denominations who are in our presence to share the observance of the Lord’s Supper with us.
