Accompanist Job Description

 

Title: Accompanist

 

Reports To: Minister of Music/Associate Pastor

 

Position Requirements:

 

Skills/Attributes Needed:

Proficiency at the piano/keyboard for both traditional and contemporary worship music styles is required. Must be able to plan and appropriately carry out presentation of preludes, offertories and postludes on a weekly basis and must be able to follow a director's leading while accompanying congregational singing. Must be able to capably accompany choir rehearsals and a variety of special music.

 

His or her responsibilities will include:

 

  • Provide accompaniment for the music program at James River Baptist Church during the congregational worship services (Sunday services, seasonal services, and special events).
  • Participate in staff meetings when needed.
  • Assist the Minister of Music in planning for services, special events and rehearsals.
  • Select music for preludes, prayer, offertory, Lord' s Supper and postludes.
  • Participate in all rehearsals for adult choir.
  • Be open to participate with children's and youth choirs if/when they are formed.
  • Provide accompaniment for additional rehearsals for seasonal and special events.
  • Work off-site when required for occasions such as choir retreats and possibly other special occasions.
  • Make effort to be available, when asked, for funerals and weddings, especially for members of JRBC. (This is not a mandatory part of the job description, but would provide a great service when possible.)*

 

The Accompanist will be a member of the Staff of James River Baptist Church and reports to the Senior Pastor and Personnel Committee. Other duties may be assigned. 

 

The Accompanist is expected to attend the appropriate church activities required for their job.  He or She is expected to be a servant leader and to live an exemplary life modeling the call, character and competencies of a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

 

The Accompanist will participate in an annual review with the Personnel Committee. This review will evaluate the prior year and establish goals for the future that should benefit both the Accompanist and the church.

 

This is a part time position of 3.5 hours per week.

 

*Financial arrangements will be made between the Accompanist and the family requesting Accompanist services.
