Overview: The main responsibilities of the Worship Leader will be to create engaging worship experiences for Journey’s middle and high school student services. This person will also work closely with Journey’s worship leaders & production
team to support the Weekend Experience, Celebrate Recovery, other ministries and special events.
Job Responsibilities:
JOURNEY STUDENT WORSHIP
- Contribute to service experiences by leading worship, accompanying, and singing for Journey Student services on a weekly basis
- Research and schedule songs/set lists in collaboration with the Journey Student team and other worship leaders
- Schedule and/or delegate the scheduling of band and vocalists each week
- Ensure accurate music resources (arrangements, charts, mp3’s, notes) are available to volunteers via Planning Center Online
- Constructively direct Journey Student worship rehearsals for execution of service and growth of student team members
- Lead pre-service meetings for all team members involved
- Communicate and assist in the execution of technical needs for worship and any additional creative elements for Journey Student services
- Provide musical training for volunteers as needed
- Develop and train team leads as well as help oversee and provide care for all students on the band and tech team
- Manage the onboarding process for new band and tech team members (applications, auditions, shadowing/training, Planning Center Online input, )
SUNDAY WORSHIP
- Contribute to service experiences by leading worship, accompanying, and singing as required for Sunday services
- Lead rehearsals and act as the point person for the worship set when serving as primary worship leader
- Provide musical direction for volunteers as needed
A SUCCESSFUL WORSHIP LEADER AT JOURNEY IS SOMEONE WHO:
- Brings an energetic, confident, and engaging stage presence
- Can lead and engage students in Spirit-led worship
- Can seamlessly tie in spoken word (scriptures, prayer, encouragement, teaching) throughout a worship set
- Has a passion for creating environments and moments that facilitate a personal and emotional response from the congregation
- Performs with a high level of excellence and sets his/her team up to do the same
- Can hear the direction for a service or series and create a worship set and experience that reinforces the central themes
- Is a relentless recruiter and developer of band and vocal volunteers
- Can consistently prepare worship sets at least a week in advance
- Communicates well with band and vocalists both before and during rehearsal to ensure smooth worship sets
IDEALLY THIS PERSON:
- Is proficient in multiple instruments (preference for guitar and keyboard)
- Is comfortable leading with or without an instrument
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Musical proficiency – vocal proficiency required; instrumental proficiency encouraged (guitar and/or keys)
- Experience leading a worship team in a contemporary/modern setting
- Experience pastoring and caring for people in a ministry setting
- Proficiency on Ableton or other DAW’s for track playback
- Knowledge and experience with Planning Center Online
- Ability to manage and coordinate staff and volunteers in a fast-paced environment
- High level of integrity, work ethic, confidentiality, and dependability
