Village Bible Church (villagebible.church) is a multi-site church in the far western suburbs of Chicago. VBC is looking for a part-time Worship Director at its new campus in Naperville. The campus is a replant of a more than 50-year old church based in the heart of Naperville.

Purpose

At Village Bible, we believe worship is more than the music before a sermon. Worship is how we live our lives, how we love God moment by moment. This position is responsible to help lead others toward that lifestyle of worship.

This person will focus on celebrative and meaningful worship ministry and invest in the ongoing development and encouragement of each Worship Ministry team member.  They plan the services and develop serving schedules in conjunction with the Campus Pastor.

Ministry Responsibilities

MINISTRY LEADER:  You will lead the worship ministry of the new Naperville campus, establishing strategy and supporting them as they carry out the overall direction set by the Campus Pastor.  This role . . .

  1. works in close collaboration with and full support of the Campus Pastor to develop a vision and plan for the implementation of worship in different settings, including but not limited to, Sunday morning services, special functions and programs with a worship component.
  2. oversees order of worship, song selection, sound/media, coordination of instrumentalists and vocalists.
  3. oversees all weekly rehearsals, activities, and communications necessary to facilitate each worship experience.
  4. is a visionary who is creative in the responsibility of leading people into the presence of God in worship.
  5. is a leader who is able to communicate the vision and direction of the worship experience with humility and inspires the body to join in the pursuit of that vision .

TEAM BUILDER:  You will develop the teams that support the worship ministry of your campus. This role . . .

  1. identifies and recruits candidates to serve on the worship team; works to build and maintain highly functioning volunteer teams.
  2. auditions vocalists and instrumentalists.
  3. develops systems to ensure that all volunteers are equipped and empowered for service.
  4. personally mentors and develops key lay worship leaders within the Worship ministry.
  5. builds rapport with team members to influence growth and creativity.
  6. shepherds that team as they serve in the worship facets of ministry.

Expectations: The Worship Director. . .

  1. is able to help people see and experience Christ in all aspects of worship.
  2. has excellent knowledge of the Bible and is able to proclaim the gospel.
  3. is an effective and gracious communicator.
  4. is able to form the worship team into a community that exemplifies and models Christ-centered living.
  5. has an ability to initiate and develop relationships across multiple generations and backgrounds.
  6. has a wide knowledge of musical expression and literature and an ability to incorporate it appropriately in the planned worship service.
  7. is able to create worship as a whole experience including understanding the roles of worship arts, music, the spoken Word, environment, and technical support.
  8. has a love for people and proactively seeks to equip and empower others to serve.

Personal Qualifications: The Worship Director is . . .

  1. a strong musician (understanding of chord charts, music theory)
  2. a gifted vocalist who is humble and Spirit-led
  3. skilled in either guitar or piano
  4. one who has a knowledge of how to incorporate multiple instruments into the worship experience
  5. committed to choosing songs with strong lyrics that reflect an accurate biblical theology
  6. one who has a focus on congregation leading, not spotlighting. No spectators and performers. Everyone is worshipping on the same level together.
