Job Summary:
This position is responsible for teaming with the Director of Children’s Ministries for ensuring the planning, organizing, developing and directing all activities Central UMC sponsors as a part of our ministry for Children in accordance with policies, procedures,
current federal, state and local standards, as well as, guidelines and regulations governing our church. Active participation in the life of Central UMC is expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Team with Director of Children’s Ministries to assess the needs of children and incorporate those needs in the planning of activities.
- Encourage, pray for/with and enable families as primary faith educators of their children.
- Keep up with trends by researching other model churches while ensuring Central’s vision is maintained by reading available literature and regularly attending continuing education events.
- Team with Director of Children’s Ministries to ensure CUMC provides an inclusive and well-coordinated ministry for both KidsLife (midweek worship) and Sunday school.
- Team with Director of Children’s Ministries to ensure that teachers are recruited and trained for all children’s Sunday school classes and mid-week small groups by utilizing effective recruitment strategies that enhance lay involvement in Children’s Ministries.
- Team with Director of Children’s Ministries to select, evaluate, create and monitor curriculum for all Children’s Ministry programs including Sunday school and mid-week ministries.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with other ministry directors in which children’s program may overlap (i.e.: Music, Youth, Childcare, etc.)
- Team with Director of Children’s Ministries to offer Vacation Bible School for grades K-3rd.
- Plan and Implement special events for children.
- Actively participate in the Children’s Council.
- Attend weekly CCM staff meetings, weekly CCM Prayer Time, quarterly all-staff meetings.
- Communicate facility upkeep and improvement needs for Children’s Ministries through the appropriate channels.

- Education and/or Experience: A bachelor’s degree is required. A degree and/or training in elementary education, middle school education, Christian education or related field is highly desirable. A minimum of three years in working
with children’s education. Experience working with children’s ministry in either a lay or paid staff capacity is necessary.
- Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as curriculum guidelines, applicable
State /Federal Regulations and procedures manuals. Ability to write class schedules and curriculum and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of children, parents, committees or employees of the church.
- Background Check: Willing to submit to a thorough background prior to being employed. Willing to submit an Arkansas Maltreatment check.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and
stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be considered loud at unusual times.
Driver’s license required for local travel between church and applicable functions.
