Calvary is seeking a male or female youth pastor who is humble of heart & influential, preferably married but not required, who is spirit filled and walks intimately with the Lord.

If married, your spouse must serve the Lord and it would be preferable that your spouse/children also have a call do use your gifts towards the ministry of this church. Ministerial credentials are NOT required but a plus, as we have a bible university on campus under the banner of Global University for acquiring your credentials and you may pursue them here. Military knowledge a plus as we are located next to Fort Drum- but not mandatory. We are not looking for the right training/experience as much as the right type of person: Faithful, available, and teachable

Expectations

The position will require- first and predominantly- strong skills in biblically mentoring and parenting (mothering/fathering) the youth generation and would entail:

1. directing all of the ministry affairs of our youth group meetings (Sundays, Wednesdays and other nights) and leading our adult youth leaders, who will be your support team.
2. You will be counted on and entrusted with establishing personal vision and building from the ground up- as our church has been without a youth leader for over a year and youth group is bleak right now with only a few teen individuals but a large number of pre-teens are soon coming out of our elementary program advancing to middle school ages.

3. A strength in community outreach to youth would be a strong plus, a comfort going into the schools and working with school leadership would be a major benefit. Your duties further would include but not be limited to:

  • Helping develop the vision of what our youth ministry looks like. What nights they meet, where, goals, etc.
  • Build strong relationships with our church’s youth and develop those relationships in and out of the church setting by visiting their homes, schools, taking them out for time together, hosting youth in your home; sharing not only the gospel but your lives as well
  • Teach, preach & Disciple youth in a very specific, mentored way, sitting down with them to develop their knowledge of the bible, help them individually understand their callings and draw out their gifts, help them gain experience where they are being called to; A heart of counseling is a major plus.
  • Help bring the parent-figures into their role and calling to be the primary source where our youth receive the instruction and image of the Lord. Work with their family in planning student’s future according to God’s calling on their life and remain an influential contact with those that go away for schooling, military etc.
  • Train/delegate youth leaders to step into and carry some of your ministry roles. Train adult leadership to cover your tasks and duties, to multiple qualified and capable leaders to minister in other places (church planting). In other words, multiply yourself.
  • Plan and implement youth missions trips locally, regionally and throughout the U.S.A; Missions is a central part of our church vision and our hopes are to see a very active youth group involved in the work of the Lord who are widely exposed to various branches of meaningful ministry.
  • The youth pastor would be expected to have an influential presence in schools, teen hangouts, local social media groups where teens gather to discuss, and local teen sporting events as a form of outreach to build relationships and grow the youth group. Train teens from church/exemplify to them what it looks like to reach their own peers. Must have minimal knowledge of modern social media platforms.
  • Secondary duties include but not limited to: Direct and delegate duties to staff, leadership, & volunteers under the direction of senior pastor. Fill in as lead pastor in the absence of senior pastor. Learn the responsibilities associated with the finance department as a back-up to our aged financial secretary. Serve in leadership on our missions’ board, missions planning. Potentially lead classes at the on-campus university. Attend district meetings. Preach on rotation for Sunday mornings/Wednesday evenings.
  • A major benefit if your spouse (if applicable) is involved with the ministry of our church in their specific giftings.

Additional info welcomed.

Any qualified applicant being considered must be willing to undergo a background check and a credit check before selection. Both will be reviewed; If there are unfavorable factors in either that you would like to explain in a seperate letter, we will consider those with understanding. Cover letters not required but are appreciated. We like additional info to know you as a person, such as a short testimony, personal bio & ministry bio/history of spouse is highly suggested so we can get a more accurate overall picture of your calling. About Calvary Assembly of God

Calvary Assembly of God is a church of about 100-150 people in Carthage in upstate, rural New York in an area affectionately known as “the North Country”. It is one of the larger churches of the area. Geographically, we are a quaint village (of about 3500 people) situated along the Black River surrounded by rural, farming communities, rolling hills, lakes, just outside of Army installation Fort Drum and situated in the foothills of the pristine Adirondacks, Lake Ontario & the stunning St. Lawrence River separating this part of NY from Canada.

Culturally speaking, the area is a very slow-paced, non-materialistic, community-oriented setting with great educational systems and minimal crime. Stores are characterized by mom & pop stores, family owned diners, older style meat markets and mercantiles, and socially blends the Mennonite farming atmosphere, the soldiers of Fort Drum with a subtle, local population who has lived and stayed here predominantly their entire life. Outside of the main industries being local mills and farming, a secondary source of main employment otherwise is the schooling systems and the base. Generally-speaking, the locals have a knack for fishing, hunting, gardening, crafting, producing their own maple syrup, skiing, ice fishing, boating, riding snowmobiles and four-wheelers as this is an outdoorsman’s paradise.

It’s important to note that due to living this north in the U.S- with the help of living off of Lake Ontario, this region is known for its severe (but fun) winters that extend from November-end through May, before ushering in a short but stunning summer of vibrant colors and outdoor activity, followed by a spectacular visual of red/orange leaves popping before the trees go bare again for the winter. Some services may be canceled (or livestreamed only) in the winter as conditions get more extreme.

Calvary Assembly of God is a spirit-filled church with a lengthy history and great reputation in this community dating back to its spirit-filled beginnings in the 1930s. It has been called by some locals “the lighthouse on the hill” as the church campus of 10 acres sits overlooking parts of the community and dwells at the entrance of the village when coming from one of its’ largest neighbors, cities of the area, the city of Watertown 10 miles west. Our church is perhaps 20% children, 30% younger/career/parenting adults (ages 25-45) and roughly 50% of age 55 or older.
