Associate Pastor for
Discipleship and Administration
General Description
The Associate Pastor for Discipleship and Administration is responsible for the
leadership and direction of all ministries related to the discipleship processes
through groups and classes and for the leadership of the church staff, including all
functional areas in the accomplishment of the church’s mission. This includes
outreach, arts, group life, student, and children’s ministry areas as well as
strategic planning, finance, administration, human resources, and operations.
Essential Job Functions
 Work with Pastoral Staff to shape the discipleship process that reflects
the personality and needs of the church and community. 
 Provide on-going training, encouragement, and support through the
development of infrastructure for all aspects of small group ministries,
especially related to group leaders, leader recruitment, and leader
education.
 Support the Senior Pastor in the accomplishment of the church’s
mission through ministry effectiveness evaluation, discernment, decision
making, planning, and overall direction of the church staff.
 Lead the ministry staff in the establishment and ongoing direction of
ministries that effectively reach the church’s demographics, ensuring the
accomplishment of the overall mission.
 Ensure the operational readiness of the church through leadership and
oversight of the support staff performing duties in administration,
finance, human resources, supply, and facilities management.
 Manage annual financial plans and budgets that fund the
accomplishment of the strategic plan and meet the needs of all areas of
ministries.
 Facilitate the annual strategic planning process including evaluation of
ministry performance; review of mission, vision, and core values;
development of key objectives and tactics; and establishment of three-
year goals.

 Give leadership and/or oversight to various aspects of the church’s
building programs, including capital fundraising campaigns, master
planning, design and architecture, contractor selection, and
construction.
 Establish and maintain a set of key performance measures (KPMs) that
provide the Senior Pastor, Elders, and church staff with ongoing visibility
of the effectiveness of all functional areas of the church.
 Assist with pastoral care in conjunction with other pastoral staff
members.
 Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
This position requires a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience,
preferably in a church environment, but consideration will be given to
exceptional candidates with secular leadership experience.  Possession of a
four-year Biblical or Seminary degree is required; a Master’s in an associated
field is a plus. The successful individual must have a proven track record of
effective leadership, judgment, and above reproach character.
 Staff Supervision and Oversight
The Associate Pastor for Discipleship and Administration is responsible for a
team of nine staff members, which includes two direct reports.  The team is
comprised of full-time, part-time, and volunteer staff. The Associate Pastor for
Discipleship and Administration reports directly to the Elders team but is also
responsible for working directly with the Senior pastor in support of his vision
and goals for the Church.
