The Production Director works with staff and volunteers to plan, lead, and evaluate all technical aspects of worship at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church by overseeing the use of audio, video, and lighting techniques that enhance a meaningful and engaging worship experience. The Production Director also manages, trains, and recruits production volunteers and provides technical leadership and support to special events and other ministries as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are fundamental duties that an individual who holds the position must perform. This is not an exhaustive list. Other duties, in addition these essential job functions, will be assigned at the discretion of the Director of Worship & Creative Arts.

  1. Provide technical support and management for worship services and events. This includes:
    1. Audio mixing, monitor mixing, and audio recording
    2. Lighting production and design
    3. Video recording and livestreaming production
    4. ProPresenter/PowerPoint presentation
    5. Prepare stage for rehearsals, worship services, and events
    6. Initiate successful communication with pastors, Director of Worship & Creative Arts, ministry leaders, event coordinators, and volunteers to facilitate audio, video, visual, and lighting needs for events
  1. Recruit, train, equip, schedule, and lead production volunteers and staff
    1. Develop training and onboarding system for youth and adult volunteers
    2. Manage and schedule active rotation of volunteers
    3. Train in areas of audio, visual, lighting, video, and stage management
    4. Be a resource for Family ministries to assure a technical presence at high school, middle school and children’s events and for youth worship teams
    5. Hire and manage contract AVL employees as needed for Sunday morning worship
  1. Update and maintain production technologies:
    1. Ensure that campus technologies are in working order
    2. Maintain technical budget and make future strategic purchases to update system
    3. Oversee technical installation, upgrades and renovations
  1. In-house video production:
    1. Oversee video production for worship services, and other ministries and events as requested, including capturing, editing, live streaming and uploading to website
    2. Develop system to manage video requests from ministries and create videos for worship, promotional, communication and education needs
    3. Carry video projects from conception to final project including writing, capturing, and editing
  1. IT Support (not a requirement, but desired):
    1. Assist in administration of the church’s computer hardware and software systems (Mac and PC)
    2. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems
    3. Assist in keeping an accurate inventory of software and hardware

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of lighting design and software
  • Knowledge of audio consoles, live mixing, and stage setup
  • Knowledge of video editing software
  • Knowledge of set design
  • Ability to lead, train, and recruit volunteers
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot in a high-pressure environment
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software utilized by the church
  • Exhibits personal and growing relationship with God and a teachable spirit
  • Commitment to the vision and beliefs of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training program in related field
  • Experience working and managing AVL components for a live production setting
  • Two years ministry experience in a church is a plus
