New Birth Missionary Baptist Church – Assistant Pastor

General Position Description

The New Birth Missionary Baptist Church’s, hereinafter referred to as NBMBC,

Assistant Pastor serves as part of the senior leadership team and works to create, enhance and sustain a culture of spiritual leadership that embraces the mission, vision, and values of the church. The scope of duties includes spiritual development and direction of the church body, strategic leadership for longevity of the church organization. The Assistant Pastor is a direct report to the Senior Pastor.

Spiritual Requirements

The Assistant Pastor must evidence a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the demonstration of godly character, active church membership, and good personal and financial stewardship.

Supervisory Controls/Responsibilities

The Assistant Pastor oversees and supervises multiple departments and Ministries including but not limited to the Ministerial Alliance (Elders and Ministers), the Deacons Ministry, and the New Birth Bible Institute.

Primary Responsibilities

• In coordination with the Senior Pastor provides direction and oversight to church body and ministries ensuring alignment of the mission, vision and core values of New Birth.
• In coordination with the Senior Pastor, works with lay leaders to evaluate, plan, and execute short- and long-term church needs.
• Assist the Senior Pastor in church activities, events and initiatives.
• Leads in facilitating/preserving church unity to bridge gaps for unity of the body.
• Serves as a front-line liaison between Senior Pastor and congregation.
• Lead/Facilitate/Oversee weekly worship services along with Senior Pastor
• Regularly and consistently dedicates time for devotion and prayer for strategic guidance from God.
• Remains accessible to leadership for direction and guidance regarding church, business and community matters regarding NBMBC.
• Spearheads the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes for spiritual growth.
• Actively assists Senior Pastor to ensure the local congregational body is receiving regular Christ-centered teaching/preaching for spiritual growth.
• Evaluates and collaborates with key leaders to develop and implement plans for short-range and long-range planning, introducing new programs/strategies to obtain established objectives.
• Evidences good team skills and maintains good interpersonal relationship through effective working relations with membership, leadership, community, peers, volunteers and external relationships and contacts.
• Communicates effectively through various modes of oral, written and electronic media.

Education, Experience and Expectations

This position requires:

• A proven encourager, motivator, and inspirer who can lead, articulate, disseminate and carry the vision of the church at all levels.
• Self-motivated/self- led with ability to create, develop and implement ministry initiative and projects.
• Excellent people and communication skills.
• A zeal and passion to impart the Word of God to believers and nonbelievers through effective preaching and teaching in all forums (internally and externally).
• Proven ability to resolve conflicts to life issues with wisdom, maturity and sound Christ-like judgment.
• Carry a posture of strength, approachability and humility.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, is trustworthy and reliable.
• A demonstrated high level of integrity, guided by a sound standard of ethical principles.
• Display spiritual maturity and moral integrity living in Godly character of excellence for followship to Jesus Christ.
• Be a tithing member of NBMBC.
• A Master of Divinity degree is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• The Assistant Pastor should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position: Analytical, Problem Solving, Oral Communication, Administration, Discernment, Delegation, Leadership, Management, Judgment, Planning/Organizing.
• Proven knowledge and understanding of the Holy Bible for effective teaching and communication of biblical Christian principles for Godly living are a must.
