What does our community look like?

The Grimes community is our center for local ministry. The city was incorporated in 1894 and is named after James Grimes, former senator and the third governor of the state. One of the most fun outreach activities we do each year is participating in the Governors’ Day parade where we hand out invitations to our High Five Camp, a weeklong VBS-like outreach to kids. The area has seen tremendous population growth in the last 20 years, doubling in size to an estimate of 13,000 today with a lot of young families moving into the area.

Des Moines is the capital and largest city in Iowa with a metro population of over 600,000 people. As the cultural and economic heart of Iowa, it is headquarters to nearly 60 companies and most notably a center for the insurance industry as well as many agriculture-related businesses. Many characterize it as a “gentle” big city, retaining a small-town feel with larger-city amenities. The area has received plenty of accolades as a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

Des Moines enjoys a low cost of living compared to many cities of its size. The cost of living is calculated to be 85.9 with 100 being the national average. The suburbs have a higher cost: Grimes (104.3), Johnston (108.7), Urbandale ( 118.9), Waukee (108.7). Housing is the biggest difference in these factors.

Our community offers year-round activities and events to engage our community. Here are just a few examples:

Entertainment – Des Moines Farmers Market, Iowa State Fair, Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines Civic Center, Simon Estes Amphitheater

Sports – Barnstormers (arena football), Iowa Cubs (AAA affiliate), Iowa Wild (hockey), Iowa Wolves (NBA G-league), NCAA March Madness Tournament Host

Higher education – Drake University, Des Moines University, Des Moines Area Community College, Iowa State University

Compensation package is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
