Associate Pastor of Discipleship and Adult Ministries

Job Summary:

In conjunction with and under the direction and oversight of the Senior Pastor, this associate pastoral position will provide overall leadership, development and direction to congregational discipleship and ministries targeting our adult population.

Education:

A bachelor’s degree or greater from an accredited, evangelically conservative seminary or Bible college is required. Counseling training and experience is highly desirable.

Ordination:

Must have, as a minimum, licensure from a local church, Bible College or denomination of like faith and practice. Ordination is preferable. 

Experience:

At least 3 years in pastoral ministry.

Doctrine:

Must be in full agreement with TMC’s published doctrinal statement.

Clearances:

Must be able to pass sex offender, child sexual abuse, and criminal background checks.

Biblical Qualifications:

Must meet elder/pastoral qualifications as listed in 1 Timothy 3:2-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:2-3 and demonstrate a willingness to be a servant leader, Matthew 20:25-28.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Discipleship

• Implement and oversee “The Pathway” discipleship model for the church.
• Develop, train, promote and advance the “Life Group” model of discipleship and connection.
• Develop, train, promote and advance “On Mission” initiatives within the congregation in conjunction with other ministry departments.

2. Pastoral Ministries

• Provide oversight for, and participate in congregational care to include coordinating hospital, home and encouragement visits and connections.
• Provide oversight and direction for the church’s Stephen’s Ministries.
• Participate in counseling ministries along with other pastoral staff.
• Assist the Senior Pastor and staff in formulation, recruitment and implementation of seasonal outreach and in-reach ministries.
• Assist/Lead classes such as baptism and membership in conjunction with Senior Pastor and other equipping staff.
• Officiate and/or assist other pastors with weddings, funerals, counseling, visitation, communion and baptism.

3. Other Duties

• Attend and participate in weekly prayer and staff meetings.
• Be actively involved in church-wide events such as monthly prayer gatherings, congregational meetings, service days, etc.
• Maintain scheduled office hours at the TMC campus.
• Develop, manage and operate within a yearly department budget.
• Serve as a preacher/teacher as agreed upon and assigned by the Senior Pastor.
• Assist in organizing and planning upcoming sermon series.
• Serve as a catalyst for development and implementation of ideas to enhance the Sunday worship experience.
• Participate in the expression of the worship gathering according to giftedness and assignment.
• Assist in the process whereby adults are connected to relationships, to serving and ultimately to membership at TMC.
