Job Description:

TITLE:   Associate Pastor

 

PURPOSE:   Join our team in the organization, direction, and development, for the ministry of First Church of God.

 

SUPERVISION:  Senior Pastor

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Adult Ministry: Organize, oversee, and be the primary leader for the adult discipleship of the believers at First Church.  Coordinate, supervise, develop and evaluate the Adult Ministry, including small groups and classes, special events and elective studies.

 

Preaching, Teaching & Pastoral Care:  Assist in preaching & teaching and other ministry leadership areas, including weddings & funerals.  Invest in the church body with pastoral care needs.

 

Ministry Development: Collaborate, plan, and develop with the Pastoral Team the ministries of First Church of God by making our church a great place to land using evangelism and outreach and a place where people can launch thru discipleship and leadership development. 

 

Collaborative Leadership: Work with the Pastoral Team in the strategic planning and development of the future ministry of First Church of God and assist in communication of this vision to the church.

 

Missions Leadership: Develop and strengthen partnerships with missionaries in an effective Acts 1:8 strategy. 

 

Support the mission & ministry values of First Church of God as outlined by church leadership. 

 

            Motivate, train & equip volunteers and lay leaders to do ministry.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

            - At least five years of ministry experience

            - Advanced education (masters in ministry preferred)

 

SPECIAL SKILLS:

            - Leadership & teaching gifts

            - Ministry development, humility, & team building skills

            - Self-starting, organizing capabilities

            - Ability to relate well with people & solve problems

 

COMPENSATION/REVIEW:

            -Cash Salary, Housing Allowance, Professional Expense Allowance, Disability Insurance, and Pension Benefits.

            -Annual ministry review with Senior Pastor

 

OUR PROCESS:  Recommended by Senior Pastor and Staff Committee and then affirmed by the Leadership Team.  Candidate must agree to comply with the Personnel Policies, Staff Covenant, and Procedures of First Church of God.

We believe in what many know as “The Great Commission.”  The last instruction Jesus gave to His disciples before He left this world was to take the message of hope to the world.  We begin in our own backyard with local missions like our non-food pantry then begin to branch out regionally, for instance our support of the inner-city mission in Muncie called “Urban Light.”  Our mission outreach to the world has included sending mission teams to such places as Thailand, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.  First Church of God wants to be active in helping others find forgiveness of sin in Jesus Christ.
