Denominations: Presbyterian
Church Size: 1001 to 1500
Job Type: Full-Time
Employee Workplace: Unspecified
Job Description:

Fremont Presbyterian Church is located in desirable Sacramento, California, one block away from Sacramento State University and near both the mountains and the ocean.  The city provides a balance of bigger city life with a smaller city feel and the cost of living is favorable compared to Los Angeles or the San Francisco Bay Area. The church has a membership of nearly 1,000, and is committed to a full and diverse set of ministries, including strong music, youth and children's programs, which attract large numbers of community members.  Both traditional and contemporary worship services are offered on Sunday mornings, with attendance of approximately 800 adults each week.  Fremont seeks to maximize the opportunity God has given us to create space for people to become lifelong followers of Jesus and to relentlessly pursue His transformation of our neighborhood, our city and the world.

We are seeking a passionate, creative, humble leader to launch the next chapter in our church’s history for our traditional worship service. The primary responsibility for the Minister of Music and Worship Arts will be leading the Classic Service at 9 am.

The search committee and leadership of the church have identified four priorities for this position.  They are:

  1. To lead and further develop the Sanctuary Choir, currently at 50 members.
  2. To lead and further develop the youth and children’s choirs.
  3. To plan and direct the annual Music Camp, a one-week summer experience for children from 2nd to 6th grade.  Music Camp involves scores of volunteers, each leading children in vocal performance, musical instruments, or sound and stage production.  At the end of the week, children perform a Biblically based musical production for the community.
  4. To design and lead our annual Christmas Concerts.  Our Christmas Concerts, offered over a three day period in mid-December, involve leading a 100 voice choir, 40 piece orchestra, artists, dancers, and dramatic readings in a nearly two hour performance celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

While there are other responsibilities tied to this position, candidates with experience in similar roles to the four priorities above are preferred. The Minister of Music and Worship Arts will also have the opportunity to develop new ideas and programs for the music and worship arts ministry of Fremont.

The successful candidate will possess a deep Christian faith and high musical competence with experience in leading a music staff and administrating numerous musical programs. This person will be a cooperative team player, specifically with pastors and other team leaders.
