This is the least discipled generation in recent American Church history. Not only do statistics show us that this generation has the fewest number of families attending church since 1950, but for the first time in our nation's history, “less than 1/2 of all Americans [48%] admit to holding a Christian worldview.” We don’t have room to unpack why, but we do have a moment to say, “This is the first generation where kids are not being dragged to church, but can and will drag their parent’s to church.”
Long gone are the days of mom and dad begging their children to come to church. In most households parents are most likely to skip church and have family time/play sports. What was once considered extra-curricular has now taken the place of weekend worship. We acknowledge this not to complain and bemoan what once was, but to sharpen vision for the now and incite hope for the future. Therefore, our approach to Kids ministry must be seen as ministry to families with kids!
There are two ways to approach this epidemic of attendance. We can try everything in our creative wheelhouse and attract church goers, OR we can partner with the Holy Spirit to make disciples. Our church certainly loves creativity, we believe in the power of marketing, and excellent productions/events, HOWEVER, we also believe that all of our efforts are rendered ineffective if our aim is not to depend on the Spirit of God to make Disciples who love and look like Jesus.
Are you a creative, passionate, administrative, and a Spirit-filled leader looking to grow with a team of high-caliber leaders?
