LaSalle Street Church (LSC), on Chicago’s near north side, occupies a historic building that sits between two worlds: Chicago’s wealthy “Gold Coast” and the under-resourced neighborhoods next door. This identity as a bridge has shaped the church’s long history. We are a congregation that attempts to welcome all, united by our love for Christ and for one another.
We work to be “the gospel with skin on it.” Throughout the years, that is what LaSalle still aspires to proclaim: a faithful gospel message of good news and good acts, embedded in our Near North community. LaSalle has created many community support programs and ministries, like the Cabrini-Green Legal Aid Clinic (the first faith-based clinic of its kind in the country), a tutoring program for kids in nearby housing projects, a Christian counseling center, a vibrant senior program, and more. LaSalle has also nurtured applied theologian authors among its membership such as Philip Yancey and Catherine Wallace, whose writings have impacted the spiritual lives of many. This heart for social justice and care for discipleship remains a core part of our identity -- our mission as believers is to advocate for and improve the lives of all people in the present.
In 2011, LaSalle formally stated what had been long-standing practice of welcoming LGBTQ+ folks into all aspects of church leadership and life.
