Calvary Church is a growing, multi-ethnic, non-denominational evangelical church of more than 3,000 attendees located in Charlotte, NC. Active in ministry for over 80 years, Calvary is committed to being and making authentic followers of Jesus Christ and known for its focus on the Bible as the living, inerrant Word of God. Calvary’s theme verse is “For the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 1:9).
This commitment is reflected in the diversity of ministries focused on proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ through biblical worship, preaching, teaching and discipleship for all ages; and local outreach and global missions. Our Calvary Child Development Center (preschool/daycare) and CHAMP Sports program are well attended from our local community.
The current campus sits on over 100 acres in south Charlotte and includes a large Sanctuary (renovated in 2019), a Life Center, a Chapel, extensive classroom and event space, a bookstore, multiple sports fields, and a cemetery.
During the pandemic Calvary Church leadership and staff swiftly adjusted, implementing technology and creative solutions to remain engaged in ministry while complying with necessary protocols to maintain a safe environment. Current ministry highlights include:
In 2006, the congregation called Dr. John H. Munro as Senior Pastor. Originally a lawyer in Scotland, Pastor Munro is known for his strong expository preaching delivered in an engaging, straightforward style. The Verdict is Calvary’s radio ministry. It features the preaching of Pastor Munro in a daily 25-minute broadcast in 16 states, the United Kingdom and East Africa, and is also available on all major podcast platforms.
Calvary is blessed to be debt-free. Over the past 15 years Calvary has completed two capital campaigns which eliminated previous mortgage debt and paid for the construction of the Calvary Life Center in full.
