The community pastor will therefore be responsible for developing and maintaining an atmosphere of spiritual growth through community ministry and events, with a specific focus on assimilation and small groups.

The candidate will be a mature believer with demonstrable character traits in line with those set out for pastors and elders in 1 Timothy 3:1-7

Major responsibilities of the community pastor will include:

I.        Assimilation

  • Oversee our assimilation process: the goal is to make "first time" guests "repeat attenders," and to encourage “repeat attenders” to become “Members.”
  •  Develop our assimilation / welcome process as growth increases.
  •  Oversee all elements of the initial 'first contact' of guests, including 'welcome desk' ministry and following up with first time guests and return attenders.
  •  Identifying needs and gifting among repeat visitors and moving them towards ministries which will meet their needs as well as towards serving opportunities to help them grow in spiritual maturity.
  •  Oversee / develop / train greeting ministry and guest services, including recruitment, retention and training of volunteers (include the development or oversight of a parking ministry)
  •  Oversee a growing demand for membership / membership class / process.

II.      Small groups (community groups)

  • Oversee all aspects of our small group (community group) ministry.
  •  Regularly create opportunities for new community groups:
  • - Identifying new group leaders
  • - Training new group leaders
  • - Forming new groups
  • - Helping new attendees connect with those groups
  • - Hosting regular 'community' booths in the lobby for people to connect

  • Training existing group leaders
  •  Monitor existing groups / leaders (small group accountability)
  •  Supervising / standardizing small group curriculum
  •  Identifying member testimonials to be shared via video with the rest of the church in services / social media / website. Part of community and service is seeing how others are involved.

III.    General Pastoral Responsibilities

  • Preaching from time to time as required to fill pulpit in Lead Pastor’s absence.
  •  General pastoral responsibilities as they arise from time to time, including counseling, shepherding, hospital visitation, weddings, funerals, liaising with staff and elders etc….
