Job Description for the Pastor of Stewardship

Position:   Pastor of Stewardship

 

Reports to:                             

Norm Schoenfeld, Pastor of Church Involvement

Would also work closely with the Senior Pastor, especially with building relationships with key Donors.  Also works with the Staff Leadership Team to develop a church-wide strategy for teaching and shepherding the congregation to be biblical stewards.

 

Role:                                           

Stewardship Champion.  To be the overall champion for the church in shepherding the

congregation to be Biblical stewards.  Help them to better understand that all they have is God’s and they are stewards over that.  To help them experience God’s call to give back a portion of their time talent & treasure to be used to further this local Church’s mission.

 

Responsibilities:                 


Stewardship Education Programs.  Work with the Stewardship Committee as well as the staff to develop and implement programs that shepherd our congregation to gain a better understanding and practice of Biblical principles of stewardship.  Help them to understand what it means for them personally as well as how they can apply that in their support of the Church and its’ mission.  These programs and or workshops would include but are not limited to: teaching on stewardship, spiritual gifts, generosity, estate planning, personal financial responsibility, social security, eliminating debt-reduction, and more. 

 

General Fund Giving.  Monitor and analyze this level, and help develop communication strategies with the staff leadership team to encourage the congregation to give when needed as necessary.  This can include drafting letters to go out with quarterly giving statements.  It would include overseeing the various mechanisms we have in place to facilitate giving such as giving online, payroll deductions, bank drafts, text-giving, or other possible options.  It would include working with the staff leadership team on both short-term and long-term communication and promotional plans to help increase giving. 

 

Key Donor Development.  Identify and meet one-on-one with key donors, building

relationships and helping them to better understand and apply biblical principles of stewardship and how they might support the church and its’ mission.  Helping them learn of creative ways to increase their generosity beyond cash only gifts.  Helping them to develop a legacy-giving mindset. 

 

Riverbend Church Foundation (RCF).  Chair the Riverbend Church Foundation, working with the Board of Directors to develop, manage, and build up the Foundation, for the purpose of helping to fund Riverbend Church’s ministries in perpetuity.  As part of this, invest in and develop the board members, empowering them as relational managers to encourage others in our congregation to invest in the Foundation.  Meet regularly with existing and potential donors guiding them to understand the best ways they can help fund the RCF.  Network with outside sources to understand and implement best practices for enlarging the RCF’s endowments.  Find ways to promote the RCF to the congregation, increasing the awareness of its’ existence and purpose. 

 

Financial Shepherding.  Provide financial counseling and or coaching, directly and/or

through a team of trained and equipped volunteers, to members of our congregation who are in financial trouble. 

 

Spiritual Formation.  Invest in others in our congregation who have the potential to develop into future spiritual mentors, shepherds, and leaders for the church.  This should be done through intentional one-on-one mentoring, as well as through small groups with a specific focus on spiritual formation and reproduction. 

 

 

Skills & Knowledge:           


Good grasp of Biblical Stewardship.  Should exhibit this understanding through his/her own personal behavior, as well as be able to teach others. 

 

Servant’s Heart.  Should have a strong desire to serve others, with an empathetic heart toward those in need.  A desire for them to know Christ, to reflect Christ, and a willingness to help shepherd them to become the person that God is calling them to be. 

 

Financial Acumen.  Should have a good understanding of personal finance, and various ways for individuals and or corporations to contribute to a church beyond simply cash donations. 

 

 

Qualifications/

Experience:                           


Pastor, or a desire to become a Pastor.

 

College Educated.  Bible College or Seminary degree a plus. 

 

Financial Professional.  Experience as a financial professional is a plus, including any accreditations such as CFP, KA, or other relevant certifications. 

 

Donor Development.  Experience with donor development at a church or other non-profit is a plus.
